EICO 950A Capacitor Checker / Tester.
These are incredibly versatile instruments. They can compare / test resistor
and capacitors as well as chokes and transformers. Since they can actually
'test at voltage' for leakage, they are so much more 'usable' than most any
'modern', digital meter. Those don't test at the voltages these are capable
of, thus aren't really much good for testing for 'leakage'. These are since
they can actually output a 1kHz tone at 500 volts. So here's the deal. We
use these here in the shop, along with the Heathkit IT-11 / IT-28 and C3.
Depends on what mood the tech is in. Really all do pretty much the same
thing.

kit, connected wires and parts to the wrong place...and we usually find 2-4
on most units). We then test / replace all tubes. Once all of that is done,
and ONLY THEN should the unit be powered up, and that should only be done on
a vari-ac with an ammeter. Following the 'parts restoration' calibration and
testing can be undertaken. Once that's completed and signed off on, then the
unit will have final detailing done. Since all of the above work represents
many hours of tech time (typically 7-10 hours) and parts, it scares off most
initial / newbie buyers of these, so we are offering it two ways. 'As-Found'
or 'Completely Refurbished'.

The following electronic laboratory test gear is purported to have come
from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
In the late 1930's, the US Department of Defense was looking for a
remote and secret location for the classified 'Manhattan Project'. This
was the Allied project (led by the United States with participation from
the United Kingdom and Canada), during World War II, to develop the
first nuclear weapons. The US government used its power of eminent
domain in 1942 to take over the Los Alamos, 'Ranch School' and all
homesteads of the town.
All information about the town of Los Alamos was highly classified until
the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan.
Known at various times as 'Project Y', 'Los Alamos Laboratory', and 'Los
Alamos Scientific Laboratory' it is one of two laboratories in the US
where classified work towards the design of nuclear weapons was
undertaken.
From 1942 to 1946, Los Alamos was responsible for the development of the
'H-bomb' and many other nuclear weapons.
Is it safe to assume that some of this test equipment below was used in
those developments?.....

Our favorite tester. We have one we have used for years and keep
calibrated. Since it's solid state you don't have to worry that it's
internal tubes have drifted. (Will not test early 4-pin or Acorn style
tubes, but will test all popular and modern (post mid 40's) tubes). Features
include:
- "Jet Check" testing section for very quick testing of select tubes
- Programmed Testing
- Dynamic Testing
- Tests High Voltage Regulators with proper current (dynamic test injects a
signal voltage into the Grid and another much higher voltage is applied to
the plate at the same time)
- Shorts Test (leakage paths up to 1 megohm and leakage as low as .5
microampere.
- Grid Emission Tests (tests up to 100 megohms)
- Life Test (tests tubes remaining reserve or life expectancy)
- Dual Section testing (Each section of a multi-section tube can be tested
separately)
- Voltage Regulated
- Overload Protection ( Manual circuit breaker protects if an unusually high
load is inserted i.e a shorted tube.)
Very accurate tester. We have completely gone though it doing all
calibrations as follows: 1) Signal Level set 2) Bias Voltage set 3) Meter
Bridge Balance set 4) Shorts Sensitivity set 5) and finally Grid Emission
Sensitivity set. Meter tests and works great! Exactly as our shop B&K 747B.
Includes both the version II Tube chart (lists over 2500 tubes) and a copy
of the manual / calibration guide. All 30 on board tube sockets in perfect
condition. All controls function perfectly. Meter looks new! Even has
built-in pin straightening for 7 pin miniature, 9 pin miniature, Noval /
magnoval & Decal / Compactron tubes. Tester is built into a blow-molded

pigtail intact. No cracked or chipped sockets or knobs. Meter window in
great shape! Built-in handle doubles as a leaning stand. Tube chart,

problem, but we do not have time to chase it, as we have a working one on
our test bench. Unit measures 10" wide x 8" tall x 4.75" deep and weighs 10
lbs unpacked.

Hickok tube testers are recognized as the more "serious"
tube checkers that were available. Not a good tester for the novice or
beginner to use as they are complicated to operate / utilize to their
fullest, but if you're used to working with tubes / test gear or have a
working knowledge of Hickok's then you will love it. With the exception of
the case (see photo collage) this one is in great shape. We have given it a
"lite" going over, checking internal caps, testing internal tubes, cleaning
contacts, "tweaking" tube chart for easier rolling and given it a good
cleaning overall. We then spot checked a few different tubes with results
consistent with our calibrated "shop" B&K 747B (747B - easy to use, but no
where near the level of gear the 752 Hickok is). Does include a copy of the
manual / schem in addition to the internal tube chart. Measures 19" x 17" x
8" (closed" and weighs 23 lbs unpacked.

I know a little about a lot of different stuff
and a lot about a few things, but virtually nothing about Transmission
Test Sets. We have had a couple in the past that have sold, but that's all
I know. Unit fires up and does respond to it's switches. The last
one we had could do a "self-test", but I don't know how to
engage a test with this unit. According to some other info on the web it's
used for testing digital radio, fiber-optic and T-carrier systems
including multi-plexers, switches and lines. Has GPIB and RS 232 outputs.?
Sorry no manual with it. Measures 13.5" wide x 17.5" deep x

I used these Teac TO-122A Test Tone generators for years in the field as a
Tascam dealer. I always had one in my tool box for testing Pro-Audio sound
systems in clubs and churches. I used them to detect signal paths and look
for anomalies in room acoustics at different frequencies. They're also great
for setting levels on input gains and for leveling power meters. They have
many other uses as well. Small package runs off a standard 9-volt battery.
Fixed 1/4" out. Frequencies are selectable 40Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 4kHz, 10kHz
and 15kHz. Levels are selectable between -10 or -40dB. Unit works perfectly
and looks great. LED to show power on. Easy 2-screw battery change if you
accidentally leave it on or just need to change the battery. Unit is small
enough to fit in your tool box measuring only 3 1/8" wide x 2.5" deep x 1.5
tall. These are no longer available from Teac new.
