This unit has had complete service including cleaning
everything including all switches, controls and contacts (no easy task
on this amp as gaining access to ALL of the controls requires complete
disassembly of the front 'chassis' panel (behind the face panel) and
removal of control circuit boards. Just FYI incase you're embarking on
this venture yourself on one). We also replaced the 'Power' and
'Protection' lamps with fresh bulbs. Following bench work, entire unit
was cosmetically detailed inside and out.

Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and
contacts. Cleaned and re-lubed all control shafts.
ü
Internal fuses checked for correct value / function and replaced where
necessary.

‘Multi-Voltage’ switch replaced and correctly set for North American
current.
ü
Solder joints reflowed on all possible high heat and stress points
ü
PC Molex connector pins burnished 
ü
All output transistors removed and individually tested. Fresh heat sink
compound was used on re-installation, of course.

Driver Boards had their 'primary' electrolytic
caps changed.
ü
Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels
after 10 min warm-up.

All
functions tested for perfect operation.

Following above procedures, unit was cosmetically detailed inside and out.

All inputs tested and both sides produce clean and even sine waves into
static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's
dead silent!

Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium
volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a 4 Ohm load with
"Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours.
On our test bench, each internal amplifier of
this particular unit, #...1420M, produced peak power of 38 Volts
per channel at 8 Ohms for xxWatts per channel and 28 Volts at
4 Ohms for xxWatts per channel via discrete, TO-3 / Metal

One of the most sought after among the ‘vintage’ power amps
of the audio world by Pioneer, the “SPEC-4” Power Amplifier.
Super build quality, with great features. Works great, Sounds
FABULOUS AND HUGE! Enough power to handle most any speaker you
'want to throw at it', and pretty much any size room you would
might have. Conversely, enough power and detail down low for
quieter listening situations. Unit does have a few small ‘dings
/ battle-scars’ on the right, front panel (see photos above).
Fortunately it does make up for it in high performance!

previously mentioned ‘battle scars’ on the face plate
