AKAI AUTO-REVERSE
CASSETTE TAPE DECK
AKAI GXC-730D
With 'AUTO-REVERSE' AND DOLBY NR
and REAL "VU" METERS
#...0321
Circa early 1976-79
Made in Japan
for sale
ü
Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and
'Certified' this unit which involves complete disassembly of
the transport (not an easy task on this table), cleaning inside
and out, COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating
all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below.
ü
Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early
on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further
restoration work, although as these are 'GX'
heads, it would be pretty hard to put much 'wear' on them).
These have virtually NO visible wear to them.
ü
Internal DC power supply tested
ü
Capstan motor disassembled, cleaned and
re-lubed.

ü
Both Flywheel belt surfaces solvent
cleaned

ü
Bronze
Flywheel bushings solvent cleaned
ü
Both
Flywheel thrust pads cleaned
ü
Capstan burnished
ü
Reel drive tires (7 IN ALL!!!) reconditioned
for trouble-free service.
(These are actually much more important to replace on this deck
(and most) than the belts. Without these, the deck won't fast
wind very well, and will likely 'eat tapes' as the 'take-up'
reel won't turn properly)
ü
New
internal Capstan Drive
belt (#FRM9.2) installed for trouble-free service.
(so this operation required extensive effort. The belts that
came in the so called "correct kit" currently available for the
Akai GXC-730D, proved to cause incorrect speed in two different
decks. We were then forced to find new belts that by 'trial and
error' allowed enough 'traction' and the most speed accuracy. In
fact, none of the belts in the 'official kit' that is currently
available for an Akai GXC-730D allowed the deck to operate at
anything resembling correct speed when tested on a frequency
counter with factory test tapes!)
ü
New
Counter belt (#.041) installed
as well as 'spindle' belt #029.
ü
'Non-locking' Pause control disassembled, cleaned and re-lubed
ü
Rubber pinch rollers have been reconditioned
ü
Tape well door 'eject' springs re-worked / repaired
ü
Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire
transport.
ü
Head alignments and azimuth checked and adjusted as necessary
for 'peak performance' with O-Scope
ü
All internal pots, switches and controls cleaned and tested for
noise-free function.
ü
Both d'arsonoval
VU meters
static adjusted, tested and working
fine.
ü
Both
VU meter illumination
lamps replaced.
ü
Both hub spindles in perfect alignment.
ü
FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and
controls tested for positive / accurate responsive.
ü
Heads in great shape as well, with many years of performance
left in them and head alignment / azimuth has been checked for
peak performance.
ü
Replaced Erase Head, reed switch with OEM
from another of the same model (very difficult to deduce and
locate as source of issue with deck not erasing correctly)

ü
Playback meters zero adjusted
'electronically' with factory test tone tape.
ü
Tape Counter Function tested
ü
Plays perfectly and records well with 1kHz,
recorded 0dB playing back @ L=-2dB & R=-3.5dB (between
TDK and Maxell tapes). With DDD CD we
experienced ~ -5 to -6dB, but great, overall sonics! (we
really put them through the paces, testing both with well mixed,
recently recorded CD material and CD recorded / factory test
tones looking for correct head Azimuth and speed accuracy).
ü
Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!
ü
Floor noise tested to -60dBm with empty shell
tape
ü
Speed tested to 98%
accuracy with 1kHz factory test tape (meaning 1kHz calibration
tape plays back at
980Hz +/- 1Hz)
Only issue still remaining is that "Rewind"
is noisy on some tapes as it nears completion.
ü
Deck has had just over 18.5 hours of
restoration work done.
Face is made of beautiful brushed aluminum, and overall the deck
is in NEW cosmetic condition. Following the extensive
restoration, we did 'test recordings' of a 'ddd' CD on 6 tapes;
Sony Normal Bias, Fuji Normal Bias, TDK Normal Bias, Maxell
Normal Bias, TDK 'SA' High Bias, and Maxell 'XL-II' High Bias.
We found that for Normal and High Bias, of those tapes tested,
both the "Maxells" performed VERY well on this particular deck.
Total technician time to restore
~18.5
HOURS!
____________________________
Handsomely designed, and classic looking Akai
GXC-730D, Auto-Reverse cassette tape deck.
Features Piano-Key
transport, Auto-Reverse,
& Dolby B. Great deck for most systems
and uses. One of the 'Biggest' cassette decks ever made.
AKAI GCX-730D
Features include:
- 3-Mode Auto-Reverse ('Manual' reverse as
well of course)
- Huge drive Motor
- Classic 'Piano Key' transport w/ Solenoid
assist results in 'Soft Touch operation
- Dolby noise reduction built-in for recording and playback
- Akai's A.D.R. (automatic distortion
reduction) changes the recording equalizer characteristics
according to the signal level of a certain frequency band to
achieve low distortion over an extended frequency range.
- Auto-Limiter (if selected) to limit 'over /
peaks' on 'high energy' recordings. Great when recording in
'Live' situations.
- Tape Type selector for Normal, Fe-CO2, &
CrO2 tape
- Dual, Large "VU" signal level meters
-
"Peak"
LED level indicator that kicks in at
+7dB
- Manual Record Level with independent L&R control
- Variable Output Level control (one of the most important
features on a deck in our opinion.
Allows you to
match volume level of other sources, allows adjustment for
'best' pre-amp input to avoid distortion, allows you to change
the volume of the deck if you have it located remotely from the
pre-amp / receiver as I do, and many other applications)
- Dual front mounted 1/4" mic input jacks
- Front mounted Stereo Headphone jack
- Analog Tape Counter w/ "Memory Stop"
AKAI GCX-730D
Specifications:

Erase Ratio:

Fast Wind time: <70sec*
on C-60 Tapes (again, does have the
above mentioned 'slowing' characteristic near the 'end' of FF
operation)
There's just something about the feel of 'original piano key'
tape transports. This one especially has a
great "feel" to it. Like you're engaging some 'huge' mechanism
internally. The 'Auto-Reverse' is very 'precise' in it's motion.
Again, we have completely refurbished and thoroughly tested this
deck, with multiple recording tests (as stated previously).
Cosmetically, it's in essentially NEW condition! Also great for
transferring your tape collection to CD, Hard-drive or MP3.
Includes original box and packing. Comes with an 'e-copy' / pdf
download of the Akai GXC-730D
owners manual
and color brochure.
Measures 17.3"

tall and weighs
26.5 lbs unpacked. Comes with our 90
day limited warranty.
AKAI GCX-730D

(tape shown in photos not included. We do ship our decks with a
'pre-recorded' tape for playback, made on this 'specific' deck,
and a tape to 'practice record' on.)

VINTAGE PIONEER CASSETTE TAPE DECK
PIONEER CT-F600
'BLUE METER' SERIES CIRCA 1979-80 MIJ
"WORLD AC POWER" ™
for sale
ü
We have gone through this unit quite some time ago for ourselves to use,
and just ran it through the shop again
which involves disassembly of
the transport, cleaning inside and out, DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal
mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below
(difficult on this deck!!!).
ü
Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early
on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further
restoration work).
ü
Main Capstan / Flywheel belts
replaced during original service
ü
Counter belts
replaced during original service
ü
Idler tires
replaced during original service
ü
Idler tires reconditioned
during this most recent service
ü
All internal trim pots, switches and controls tested for
noise-free function.
ü
All meter lAmps and LED indicators working fine.
ü
Both hub spindles in perfect alignment.
ü
FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test and
controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive
is what we normally like to say, but due to the internal design of this
one, we were not able to get it to perform 100%, EVERY time.
Occasionally the 'STOP' button will have to be pressed a time or two, or
another button will need to be pressed to then be able to engage 'STOP'.
Other buttons sometimes 'hang up' temporarily, but usually selecting
another transport function will 're-set' them as they're 'self
cancelling / mechanical' with an internal mechanism that was unusually
difficult to service and get to the current 'usable' state.
ü
Heads in great shape as well, with many years of performance
left in them
ü
Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire
transport.
ü
Head alignment and azimuth at 125Hz, 1kHz and 10kHz adjusted for
BOTH directions for 'peak performance' with O-Scope and w/ STL
and TEAC MTT-257H calibration / alignment tapes. Both channels
now even output for PLAYBACK..
ü
Both Internal playback amplifier channels adjusted with Volt
meter, O-Scope and w/ STL and TEAC MTT-257H calibration /
alignment tapes. Both channels now even output
for PLAYBACK..
ü
Meters adjusted to even zero with symmetric input with Volt
meter, O-Scope and w/ STL and TEAC MTT-257H calibration /
alignment tapes. Both channels now even output
for PLAYBACK.
ü
Both Internal Record amplifier channels adjusted with Volt
meter, O-Scope and sine-wave generators and
'pink / white noise sources', however we were not able to get
great recordings. The left channel is often 'low / and distorted' on
'Recording' (sounds fine as a 'PLAYBACK' deck).
ü
Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!
ü
Speed adjusted to 100% accuracy BOTH
directions, with with TEAC MTT-257H
1kHz factory calibration tape (meaning
1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 1
Hz)
ü
Pinch roller re-surfaced, and in GREAT condition!!!
ü
Tape Counter works well
ü
Speed adjusted internally to 100% accuracy with 1kHz factory
test tape (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz
+/- 1Hz) (utilized TEAC MTT-257H)
ü
Floor noise measured at -60dBm
So again, this deck was ultimately passed as a 'Playback' deck.

We have
completely gone through this unit, cleaning inside and out including all
contacts, switches and controls. This is difficult to do on these as it
necessitates the removal of the face and associated circuit boards. All I/O
internal er points, "re-flowed" for trouble-free performance. Unit looks
great! All functions tested for perfect operation. All inputs tested and
both side produces clean and even sine waves! Checked with O-Scope. No power

This is a
very high quality control / pre-amplifier for most any system. If you need
high level sonics, the Yamaha C-80 is the ticket. Will work with most any
power amplifier, tube or solid state. After bench work the unit looks,
performs and sounds great! Besides the fact that it's a Yamaha, this unit
stands in a class by itself due the the "fully parametric" EQ and it's
versatile "phono" section. Again, great where you need power amp control,
with super pure tone routing. Unit measures 17" wide x 3.25" tall x 14.5"

Our technician has mechanically & electrically
gone through this table, which involves disassembly, cleaning
inside and out and the balance of efforts listed below.
ü
Original Start / Run capacitor works fine.
ü
Motor and Suspension tensioned disassembled and lubed
(tech note: Motor thrust bearing in excellent condition...motor
has lots of torque, smooth and quiet)
ü
Spindle disassembled, cleaned, thrust pad removed
and examined to be in excellent condition. Lubed with synthetic
machine oil.
(tech note: very quiet and smooth. Test spin with no belt results
in platter coasting for 1 minute and 45 seconds!)
ü Tested / analyzed and passed for motor noise and 60Hz hum.
ü
Fresh, new 'Lord Rubber' motor mount grommets installed
ü
Fresh, new 35.1 FRB drive belt installed
ü
Platter runs currently runs at 95.5% correct at +4.5% (filing /
machining the motor pulley down would improve it further)
ü
Platter tested for 'true flat' with no 'run-out'
ü
Tone Arm weighting and ‘tracking’ adjusts
well and accurately.

Normally we would completely refurbish / restore
a table. This one had two 'cosmetic' issues that were beyond our
'skill sets' or we simply didn't want to tackle. The first, and
primary issue for us was the surface oxidation on most of the
table, but especially the tone-arm. It simply wasn't practical
for use to try and rectify or pursue. Second issue was the
'checking / flaking' of the original 'tinted finish' on the
base. We have a guy that could have re-finished it for us, but
then we're back to the 'oxidation' issue that we weren't going
to address, so we would end up with a great looking base, but
the balance of the table's cosmetic issues would now 'stand
out'.
I have an affinity for this table, as every time I go to 'High
End' audio shows, it's the table that is used by many of the
speaker, cartridge, phono-pre-amp and amplifier dealers /
manufacturers as they're way of demonstrating their gear. Part
of my thought process is to keep it for myself (I don't mind my
gear have a bit of 'cosmetic character / battle scars. Most of
my old favorite guitars and Amps have plenty of 'road rash'),
but I really don't have room for a third / fourth table in my
current system (but of course that could change). So until I
decide to keep it, it's for sale in 'working well, but 'as-is'
cosmetic condition. Again, our turntable tech has gone
through the mechanicals / electricals of
this table, and following
restoration was tested for speed accuracy, rumble, wow &
flutter, noise isolation, and tone-arm function.
Table looks good, sounds and works great!
Again, comes with Shure cartridge, but needs a stylus
(we can install something else if the purchaser desires for the
cost of the cartridge).

PRE-OWNED
BUFFET CLARINET
MODEL B12
INTERMEDIATE
STUDENT Bb CLARINET
for sale
This clarinet is modeled after the
Famous Buffet Grenadilla wood clarinets from the 'old day's'. When I worked
for a 'full-line' music store thru the 1990's, we would periodically have a
'vintage' Buffet come thru and they never hung around long once serviced for
re-sale. It is what most clarinet players asked for. That and Yamaha's.
This is a Buffet B12 clarinet, again, designed after the 'vintage' horns
for the student / beginner and into the intermediate market.
The Buffet B12 clarinets are made from ABS resin with an appearance
and sound similar to that of genuine Grenadilla wood. These models are
lightweight, strong and easy to clean perfect for even very young players.
The Buffet B12 model has a very attractive and traditional design
with nickel-plated body rings, straight key work and a traditional bell
ring. The body is buffed to give the appearance of wood.
The nickel silver key work is cold forged and induction ered,
providing greater stability, precision and quality. The B12 model is mounted
with double fish skin pads which ensure excellent sealing.
Features:
- Nickel plated keys, body rings & plated bell rings
- 65mm barrel
- 14.65mm poly-cylindrical bore
- Arched key cups (same as R-13 model)
- Staggered trill keys (same as R-13 model)
- Blue Needle Springs
- Adjustable 3-position thumb rest
- Ergonomic key design: Improved playing comfort like that of a professional
clarinet
- Pointed needle springs for quality key action
- Undercut tone holes for improved tone quality and faster response
- High quality Double fish skin pads enables air tightness and are long
lasting
- Blow-molded, hard shell case
Mouthpiece Assembly with
Ligature, Cap and Mouthpiece
- Cork Grease
- Cleaning
Swab
This clarinet retails
for $925.00 (US).

Yes, we know, EVERYTHING (at least all the receivers)
are OUT
currently.
We will be posting more in the future.
We are currently focusing resources on expanding our receiver 'Parts
Department' AND 'refurbished' stereo receivers sell faster than we can get them
refurbished, and it's a slow process getting them ready.
