BUFFET CLARINET
MODEL B12
INTERMEDIATE STUDENT Bb CLARINET

for sale

This clarinet is modeled after the Famous Buffet Grenadilla wood clarinets from the 'old day's'. When I worked for a 'full-line' music store thru the 1990's, we would periodically have a 'vintage' Buffet come thru and they never hung around long once serviced for re-sale. It is what most clarinet players asked for. That and Yamaha's.  This is a Buffet B12 clarinet, again, designed after the 'vintage' horns for the student / beginner and into the intermediate market. The Buffet B12 clarinets are made from ABS resin with an appearance and sound similar to that of genuine Grenadilla wood. These models are lightweight, strong and easy to clean perfect for even very young players. The Buffet B12 model has a very attractive and traditional design with nickel-plated body rings, straight key work and a traditional bell ring. The body is buffed to give the appearance of wood. The nickel silver key work is cold forged and induction soldered, providing greater stability, precision and quality. The B12 model is mounted with double fish skin pads which ensure excellent sealing.

 Features:
- Nickel plated keys, body rings & plated bell rings
- 65mm barrel
- 14.65mm poly-cylindrical bore
- Arched key cups (same as R-13 model)
- Staggered trill keys (same as R-13 model)
- Blue Needle Springs
- Adjustable 3-position thumb rest
- Ergonomic key design: Improved playing comfort like that of a professional clarinet
- Pointed needle springs for quality key action
- Undercut tone holes for improved tone quality and faster response
- High quality Double fish skin pads enables air tightness and are long lasting
- Blow-molded, hard shell case

Mouthpiece Assembly with Ligature, Cap and Mouthpiece

•           Cork Grease

•           Cleaning Swab

This clarinet retails for $925.00 (US).

This pair is also THE CLEANEST, most 'issue-free' pair we've had! In fact, just had a fresh, professional re-veneer in beautiful walnut wood grain veneer, then rubbed with lemon oil. Grills and grill frames in great condition. All grill locating pins intact and functioning. No breaks, cat stains, tears, rips or snags to the original grill cloth. Very importantly, NONE of the very common 'midrange wrinkling' that for some reason happens to about 50% of the HPM-100's we see.

VINTAGE KENWOOD SPEAKERS
KENWOOD KL-888D / KL888D SPEAKERS
#...1030 / 1680
 Circa 1976-78
 Made in Japan
for sale
Classic lattice grill, vintage & large Kenwood KL-888D stereo speakers. 5-Way, 6-Speaker / Driver, Bass Reflex cabinet design. These are VERY efficient speakers with above average tone balance for late '70's speakers. Plenty of top end that can be filtered / tailored to your tastes with built-in attenuator or external EQ / tone control. Also HUGE & tight low end, likely due to the "Air-Suspension" cabinet design.
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. Speakers were entirely disassembled. Crossover components and internal circuit boards were inspected for any possible 'sympathetic' component vibrations. Attenuators were removed and cleaned for static free operation. Our tech has completely tested all drivers, then re-assembled with their original and adequate gasketing material under all driver frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies, and tested with both recorded material, PN and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Following, of course our normal barrage of 'pink noise' and an AF sweep from 3k down to 20Hz, our demo cuts ran the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ, our 'Usher Speaker' demo CD (no not that Usher), 'Friday Night in San Francisco', with Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia, Nickel Creek's Why Should the Fire Die, Jennifer Warnes, 'Famous Blue Raincoat', and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
Incredible power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" better MUCH than your average speaker. Not simply referring to they're wattage rating, but just the way the perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler 500 watt power amp.

They also seem to be able to handle "power" better than your average speaker. Not simply referring to they're wattage rating, but just the way the perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. Among the top performers of the many speakers we have auditioned over the years. Unfortunately, these are missing their grills.

   Features:

 - 16" Non-deteriorating Cloth surround Woofer
 - 6.5" Non-deteriorating, paper surround Mid
 - 6.25" x 2" Horn, Upper Midrange with Compression increasing Phase Plug
 - Dual 2.25" Radial Horn Tweeters with Phase Plugs to increase compression
 - 1.25", Mylar Cone, Radial Super Tweeter
 - "Real" internal cross-over, not just a couple of "caps" on the mids and tweets
 - 3-position Hi frequency attenuators, using resistors, not failure prone Ni-Chrome wire, for custom tailoring sound to your tastes and listening room

- Dual 2.25" Tuned ports for extended low end
 - Vented / cloth woofer dust cap for increasing low end efficiency

Specs:

 Frequency Response:
25-22,000Hz +- 3dB
 Efficiency:
98dB 1w @ 1m
 Nominal Impedance:

 Cross-over frequencies:

 Recommended Nominal Power Amplifier range:
10-200 watts
 Recommended MAX Power rating:
150 watts

Very nice looking wood grain, vinyl wrap cabinets. Again, these speakers are sans grills. The cabinets are in excellent shape. Our speaker tech has completely checked these speakers inside and out. Loose inputs tightened. 2 corner joints re-glued / clamped. Attenuators removed and all positions cleaned. As with all of our speakers have completely tested these w/ AF sweep, PN and our standard barrage of test recordings looking for any acoustical anomalies, extraneous noises or sounds and to judge overall sound quality with our Hafler test power amp. All drivers are in perfect condition, work and sound fine!
Speakers look and sound GREAT! Huge, accurate and loud sound, but also very efficient at lower powers due to their 98dB rating! If you're looking for a great performing speaker at medium to higher volume applications, you will not be disappointed with these speakers. Each measures 26" tall x 17.5" wide x 12" deep and weighs 54 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard limited speaker warranty ( & excluding problems due to under / over powering)

KEF 105.4
'Reference Series'
HOME AUDIO SPEAKERS

 #... 1491A & B
 Circa 1980-84
MADE IN ENGLAND
SOLD 10/4/16
SHIPPED TO NEW YORK

KEF 105.4's, are easily contenders for some of the best speakers we've had for overall balance, volume / output and power handling capabilities. These have most everything I look for in a home audio speaker such as 'balance', detail, power handling, accuracy, punch and 'largeness of sound'. HUGE in both size and SONICS! Great for most genres of music. 3-Way / 4-Driver, pseudo 'acoustic suspension' cabinet design (actually what they KEF calls "Nuevo Bass Loading Technique". Just a great 'all-around' speaker for home audio listening or recording ‘studio monitor’ use. Just as happy with a medium-small size amp as they are with amps of larger size. A very interesting feature of these speakers is a 'sighting' lens / LED arrangement that allows you to rotate / tilt the Midrange / Tweeter units on either X or Y axis to perfectly 'aim' them at a 'critical' listening area.
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. Speakers were entirely disassembled. Crossover components and circuit boards were 'damped' to 'proactively' reduce any possible 'sympathetic' component vibrations. He also 're-attached' the 'anti-resonance' pads in the upper driver housings. He also installed fresh felt bumpers under the mid / high housings. Our tech has completely tested all drivers, then re-assembled with their original and adequate gasketing material under all driver frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies, and tested with recorded material, PN and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Following, of course our normal barrage of 'pink noise' and an AF sweep from 3k down to 20Hz, our demo cuts ran the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ, our 'Usher Speaker' demo CD (no not that Usher), 'Friday Night in San Francisco', with Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia, Nickel Creek's, "When in Rome" from the CD, "Why Should the Fire Die" and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
Incredible power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" MUCH better than your average speaker. Not simply referring to their wattage rating, but just the way they perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler 225 watt power amp.

Cabinets cleaned, then had a coat of Howards 'Restore-A-Finish' and 'Feed-n-Wax' rubbed into the 'real' teak wood veneer and are in great shape. Grills including grill frames and cloth in great condition as well with only very minor wear. All 8 original swivel castors in fine shape. Overall, the speakers look and perform great!

 KEF 105.4 SPEAKER FEATURES:

 - 3-Way, 4-Driver Acoustic Suspension / Infinite Baffle Bass cabinet design
 - Dual 8" / 200mm, 'Bextrene' cone woofer, with non-deteriorating Butyl rubber surround.
- 4.25" / 110mm Polymer Midrange
in separate, individual polymer housing
- 1" / 25mm KEF 'T33'  Fabric Dome Tweeter in separate, individual polymer housing
- Very well designed and built, '19-Element' internal  cross-over

- Overpowering protection built-in
- LED 'Optimum Listening Area' indicator'

- Speaker input connectors are heavy duty, 3-Way, binding posts
- 'Matched Pair' Paired to spec within 0.5 dB of each other on all aspects, per KEF 105.4 brochure.

KEF 105.4 SPECIFICATIONS:
 Frequency Response:
55-20,000Hz +/-2dB at 2m on design axis or 30-30,000Hz -10dB
 Efficiency: ~86 dB 1w @ 1m
 Maximum Output 'program material': ~108 dB 1w @ 1m
 Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each
 Cross-over frequencies: @ 150, 400 & 2kHz

 Recommended Power Amp Rating:
40-200 watts per channel
Max Power Rating
:
200 watts per channel of 'music / program' material
Protection: 'S-STOP" The system is protected against any continuous or intermittent fault conditions which produce input signals not greater than 70V peaks from DC to 50kHz

Again, we have completely tested all drivers at individually applicable frequencies with a sweep generator looking for any irregular anomalies in either the drivers or cabinet structure integrity. Very nice looking REAL 'Teak' wood, veneer cabinets. Cabinets and veneer overall in excellent shape and look great (wood under grills darker, than exposed wood due to age of finish and exposure to ambient light). Both grill frames and their cloth in fine shape with no breaks or tears.
These have most everything we look for in a home audio speaker such as 'balance', detail, power handling, accuracy, punch and 'largeness of sound'.
Bass response was 'deeper' than about 70% of the speakers we audition, based on the ability to reproduce one of our very difficult 'test cuts'. They are able to handle "power" MUCH better than your average speaker. Not simply referring to their wattage rating, but just the way they perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler power amp.
Also, again, these look great having the above mentioned work and are ready to go!
Each measures 37" h x 13.75" w x 15" d and weighs 45 lbs unpacked. Includes our 90 day warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering)

VINTAGE PIONEER STEREO SPEAKERS
PIONEER HPM-100 SPEAKERS

Made in Japan

Circa mid 19
76-80
SOLD 10/18/16
SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA
One of the top 'Classics' and one of the most sought after speaker models ever made. The Pioneer HPM-100's. It would be difficult to expand on what's already been written out there about these speakers. Most fans of these know some version of the HPM-100 / JBL L100 story or a link to an appreciation web site. They have been one of my favorites for some years now, and I finally, not long ago finished a pair for myself to keep. They are capable of high volume levels while producing "pounding" & "tight" bass (mostly due to the cast frames and carbon-fiber mix woofers) with great balance on the top and mid end. Just a great 'all around' speaker. Just as happy with a small-medium size amp as they are with amps of larger size (probably not efficient enough to enjoy with a small wattage or single ended tube amp).
This pair is also one of the most beautiful pair we've had! In fact, they have been re-veneered in what appears to be a variation of walnut wood with the most unique grain in impeccable condition (see photos above). Grills and grill frames in great condition. All grill locating pins intact and functioning. The grill cloth was also replaced with a studier nylon than the original (see photos above). No breaks, cat 'pee' stains, tears, rips to the grill cloth. Both original "PIONEER HPM-100" logos / badges intact. Only minor issues to speak of would be that the grill on one of the super tweeters has a small 'ding' in it (does not touch the element, nor affect sonics), and the color of the woofer cones are slightly different (not sure if one was exposed to more sunlight or if one has been changed in the past for another original). All cabinet corners and edges 'crisp' and ding free. These speakers are beautiful to behold!

ü  Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' these speakers.

ü  Speakers were entirely disassembled.

ü  Attenuators were checked with pink noise to ensure the mids and tweeters had no 'dead spots' in their reproduction.

ü Super Tweeters removed and individually tested sonically

ü Additional gasketing material was added, under all driver frames and the input panel to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies.

ü Additional 'poly spun' damping material added to cabinet interior to further 'tighten bass' and reduce 'rumble' and other bass anomalies often heard in 'factory cabinets.

ü  Following reassembly, both were tested PN and swept them with our AF generator from all the way down to 5Hz-10kHz.

ü  Crossover components and internal circuit boards were further inspected for any possible 'sympathetic' component vibrations.

Following, of course our normal barrage of 'pink noise' and an AF sweep, our demo cuts ran the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ, our 'Usher Speaker' demo CD (no not that Usher), 'Friday Night in San Francisco', with Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia, Nickel Creek's, "When in Rome" from the CD, "Why Should the Fire Die", Jennifer Warnes, 'Famous Blue Raincoat', and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.

Efficiency: 92.5 dB 1w @ 1m
Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each
Cross-over frequencies: @ 1.2k, 4k & 12kHz
Continuous / Max power rating: 50 / 100 watts

Pioneer HPM-100's are from what most folks (including us) would argue was Pioneer's 'Pinnacle' period, and were offered in the same line-up that gave us the such great Pioneer units as the Spec 1, 2, 3 & 4 Pre-amps and amplifiers, The CT-F1250 Cassette deck, The monstrous SX-1980 Stereo Receiver, and the classic RT-707 & RT-909 Reel to Reel decks.
Again, we have completely tested everything as stated above. Tested for all frequencies with a sweep generator looking for any irregular anomalies in either the drivers or cabinet structure integrity. If you are looking for a beautiful pair of HPM-100's, sonically as well as cosmetically, then here you go! Each measures 26.5" h x 15.5" w x  15" d and weighs 59 lbs unpacked.  Includes our 90 day warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering)

OMNI-DIRECTIONAL

STEREO SPEAKERS

Circa 19
71-74
Made in USA

SOLD 9/15/16
SHIPPED TO OHIO

Very unusually designed Harman Kardon, stereo speakers. 360 degree dispersion, round, 2-way design. While these are fairly "cosmetically challenged", they do perform Ok. These are not "loud" speakers and are designed for fairly low wattage ranges. Best for back ground use or for their appearances.
Features include:

- 2-way, Omni-Directional, Acoustic-Suspension design
- 6.5" Low Frequency Driver (woofer)
-2"
Conical, Paper Tweeter
- "Real" internal crossover
- High Frequency attenuator
- Both screw terminal and RCA inputs
- 8 Ohms impedance

Again, these are fairly cosmetically challenged. They were apparently set too close to a heater, which slightly warped a side area of one of the cabinets and blistered the wood grain vinyl wrapping. Also, the vinyl wrapping on the tops have shrunk a bit, so there's about .25" uncovered around the top. We have completely disassembled these speakers (a very difficult task) cleaned all and replaced the internal crossover caps with fresh ones. Again, these speakers are for lower volumes and power ratings. Not a speaker that should be purchased for louder volumes. Each measures 17" x 12" and weighs 16 lbs unpacked.

RECTILINEAR III "TALL BOYS"
STEREO SPEAKERS
Circa 1968-73
MADE IN THE USA!

SOLD 5/18/16
SHIPPED TO ARIZONA

Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these.  We have completely tested all drivers. Original mids' were 'questionable' on the 'audio sweep' so the Midrange's were replaced with a pair of 'originals' we had 'rat-holed' here at Oak Tree Vintage. All drivers were removed and reinstalled into cabinet with ‘added’ gasketing material under their frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies. Both Mid and Top End attenuators had there contacts burnished and were cleaned internally. Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-10kHz. Then came our standard, 'abusive' test recordings. Rectilinear 'III Tall Boys' ORIGINAL SPECIFICATIONS / SPECS:

Frequency Response: 22-18,500Hz +- 3dB
Nominal Impedance:
8Ω
Cross-over frequencies:
@
500Hz, 3kHz & 11kHz
Recommended Power amplifier rating:
20-100 watts

From a 1967 Stereo Review Julian Hirsh had this to say about the Rectilinear III, "
Over a period of several months, we have had the opportunity to compare it with a number of other speakers that can 'outpoint' the Rectilinear III on any "individual" characteristic-frequency range, smoothness, distortion, efficiency, dispersion or transient response. However, none of the speakers combine ALL of these properties in such desirable proportions as the Rectilinear III", and  in a 1972 Stereo Review, he had this to say about the Rectilinear III, "...the two samples we have tested are among the best-sounding and most 'natural' speakers we have heard"

This pair actually has 'Jensen' built 12" woofers from the factory (my personal Rectilinear III-High-Boys do not. Just FYI.) These are great sounding 12" 4-way speakers. All drivers feature a non-deteriorating cloth surrounds. The driver compliment consists of one heavy duty 12" woofer, one 4" midrange with hi-mid whizzer cone, two 2.5" cone tweeters and 2 1/5" cone super tweeters. Bass is enhanced via a 2" tuned port.
System input is via binding-post / banana jacks. The input plate also features midrange and hi-freq attenuators, and the "MADE IN THE USA" plate. The entire enclosure is damped with batting. The cabinets are a beautiful American Walnut with very nice grain featured throughout and are in near new condition. These have great efficiency, but are still able to handle bigger power. Huge bass and crystal clear highs with just enough mids. These things -ROCK! I know..I have a pair in my personal 'speaker collection'. They measure 35" tall x 18" wide x 12" deep and each weighs 70 lbs unpacked. Comes with an 'e-copy' /pdf download of the Rectilinear Owners manual, as well as a few 'e-copies' of original brochures. Includes our 90 day warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering)!

VINTAGE SANSUI SPEAKERS
SANSUI  SP-3500 / SP3500
STEREO SPEAKERS

 #...1803/ 3917
Circa 1974-76 (in US. As early as ’71 in Asia)

SOLD 8/16/16
SHIPPED TO MARYLAND

HUGE, VERY impressive and rare Sansui SP-3500 Hi-Fi speakers. 2nd from the top of the line for that time period and many folks, including us believe this was from the best series Sansui ever offered (this series includes also the SP-2500 and SP-5500).
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'certified' these. All drivers were removed and tested independently. The woofers had their original, cloth roll suspensions, re-adhered. They were then reinstalled into cabinet with ‘added’ gasketing material under their frames to improve air seal, and to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies. 'High' and 'Mid' Attenuators have been removed, burnished, and cleaned for static-free performance. Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-10kHz. Then came our standard, 'abusive' test recordings. Cabinets were cleaned, then finished with a fresh coat of lemon oil
(which we recommend to be applied every 6 months to a year, to all ‘real wood veneer’ speakers).
Following the above work, these speakers are ready to go!
We auditioned this pair well. Following the above mentioned 'barrage', our demo cuts ran the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
'Solid', punchy and 'tight' low-end, with no 'mush'. Overall, Great 'tone' quality, but then again, they're one of the most famous and sought after speaker models ever made. These are also in fabulous cosmetic condition, with no real issues to speak of. Look near new.
Sansui SP-3500 Features:

- 4-Way, 6 driver design
- 14" woofer with non-deteriorating cloth surround and vented dust cap to extend low-end
- Dual 4" mids w/ Non-deteriorating Cloth surrounds
- 4.5 x 2" Aluminum horn, upper mid with diffusion lens
- Dual 2.25" radial horn super tweeters
- Dual 2" tuned ports to extend bass even further than the woofers already produce
- "Real" internal cross-over with Hi and Mid Frequency attenuation controls

Sansui SP-3500 SPECS:
Frequency Response:
25-20,000 Hz
Cross-over frequencies: 700Hz, 2000Hz and 6.5kHz & 12dB / octave roll-off
Sensitivity: 100 dB @ 1W / 1m
Impedance: 8 Ohms
Power capacity: 100 Watts

These speakers produce Deep bass and are rated for a lot of power at 100 watts. VERY LOUD, punchy and accurate! Make your sound 'come alive'. Lot's of 'presence' and feature that 'Big Wall-O-Sound'!
Cabinets look fabulous. The original finish is real Walnut wood veneer and is in very clean condition and just had a fresh coat of Lemon Oil
The original lattice grills are hand carved, featuring 'Kumiko' fretwork, like other Sansui speaker grills and are in great shape, with virtually no wear and are solid with no breaks or noticeable chips.  The difference with the grills on this series, not found on the prior years, are that they are curved which provides better diffusion of sound.
Again, we have completely gone thru these speakers, as stated above. All drivers work and sound great!
If you are looking for a vintage speaker that has the sound accuracy of more modern speakers then here you go, but that really will 'get loud', then here you go.  Great for 'live sounding' classical, Jazz, Bluegrass or Rock. You won't be disappointed. Each cabinet measures 25.25"h x 17.25"w x 11.5"d and weigh 58 lbs each unpacked. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering.)

 BOSTON A100 SPEAKERS
 #...3406 / 3418
 Circa 1980-'87
 Made in USA

SOLD 2/8/16
SHIPPED TO VIRGINIA

One of the larger of the Boston Acoustic models. The Boston Acoustic A100 stereo speakers
(I have had a pair of these in my main speaker line-up for years and they're probably the most listened to pair...I currently have about 16 pair in my system). Great speaker for detail & balance. One of my all time favorites.
We have completely tested all drivers. Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. Woofer surrounds replaced with fresh for years of trouble-free service. All drivers were removed and reinstalled into cabinet with ‘added’ gasketing material under their frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies. Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Then came our standard, 'abusive' test recordings. These speakers are ready to go!
Great 'balance' and reproductive detail. 'Solid', punchy and 'tight' low-end, with no 'mush'. Incredible 'tone' quality and very 'Musical'. These are in excellent cosmetic condition as well.

BOSTON ACOUSTICS A100 FEATURES INCLUDE:

- 2-way, Acoustic-Suspension design
-10" Low Frequency Driver (woofer)
-1" Soft-dome, "Ferrofluid" Cooled Tweeter
- "Real" internal crossover (not just a 'cap' on the tweeter)

BOSTON ACOUSTICS A100 ORIGINAL SPECIFICATIONS / SPECS:

Speaker Cabinet Design:
2-way, Acoustic Suspension Cabinet
Driver Complement:
One 10-inch, steel frame woofer, and one 1-inch soft dome tweeter

Frequency Response: 37-25,000Hz +- 3dB
Efficiency:
90dB 1w @ 1m
Nominal Impedance:
8Ω nominal / 6Ω minimum
Cross-over frequencies:
1.8kHz
Recommended Minimum Power amplifier rating:
15 watts minimum

While these speakers are physically large, it is not without reason. Their expansive baffle board serves to reduce any "out of phase" reflections / wave anomalies from neighboring surfaces. This way the speaker can "control" it's sonic results, instead of having it's environment as the major contributor. Secondly the tall stature of the A100  puts the tweeter more on plane with your ears, instead of your knees.

The Walnut grain, vinyl wrapped cabinets in great shape, with hardly any wear, as are the black knit grills. Both woofer surrounds just replaced with new foam for years of trouble-free service. Great speaker for up to mid volume levels. Again, these are more "detail" oriented speakers not "Power Pounding, Party" speakers (yes they get loud, but that's not their "forte"). If that's what you're looking for then don't buy these. These are "definitive" classic Boston speakers. These are a one or two "up" on Advent Loudspeakers. I personally own a pair of Boston Acoustic A100's next to a pair of Advent "The Loudspeakers". Both are very close sounding, but I prefer the sound of my Bostons for a few reasons. Just "bigger" sounding. They are the selected speaker in my system 75% of the time (and I have from 12-18 pairs of speakers in my system at any one time). If you're looking for "true" wide frequency response, balance and detail then these may be the speaker for you (great for most all types of recordings; R&R, POP, RAP, Jazz and new-country, acoustic guitar recordings & classical / symphonic / string music. Very accurate, detailed sound!!! Cabinets measure 32.5" H x 16" W x 8.5" D and weighs a hefty 41 lbs each. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering).

  'Mirror Image / Matched Pair'
STEREO SPEAKERS
  Made in USA
 #...8937R & 8937L
  Circa 1984-93

SOLD 3/8/16
SHIPPED TO NEW HAMPSHIRE

One of the most famous speaker models ever made. The Bose 501's. These are the 4th generation, the "Series IV's". Features Bose's famous "Direct / Reflecting" cabinet design. Has front firing 10" woofer and two angled / side firing, "Reflecting" tweeters.
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. These have been completely gone through, including having the foam surrounds replaced on the woofers (which is no easy task on this model due to tricky grill removal / reinstallation). The 501's are probably the most difficult of the Bose or any speaker to access the drivers as the grills are stapled on with brads). Another note on the Bose 501 and most Bose foam surrounds. It is a safe bet that there are NO Bose 501's out there that are over 15 years old (and most are) that do not need the foam replaced on the surrounds. Even if it looks good, if you can stick your finger through it, (and you will be able to) or it feels "sticky", it needs to be replaced. It won't last many songs (probably only part way thru the first one) at any decent volume if you don't.
The difficulty in re-foaming 501's is that the grills are nailed on with about 30, well hidden brads and beyond the resource level of most people to deal with. Thus, when they test them briefly, they get some sound and sell them as "speakers work fine and as they should". WRONG!!! They all need new foam if it hasn't already been done in the past 15 years. Again, these, as with most of our speakers, have just had fresh, new foam installed on the drives if applicable. I just had to reiterate that due to all the mis-information out there, especially on the "on-line" auctions. We also checked the internal Tweeter protection lamps. All tweeters in perfect working order. All ready to play and enjoy

BOSE 501 IV FEATURES INCLUDE:

-
3-way, 3-Driver, Bass Reflex, "Direct-Reflecting" speaker design
- 10" Woofer
-2x 3" sealed frame, cone Tweeters in reflecting configuration with dual crossover points
- 2.75" Tuned Port for extended Low End response
- 'Spring Clip' style wire connections
- 'Shock Absorber' / Lamp tweeter protection
- Acoustic Suspension cabinet

BOSE 501 IV ORIGINAL SPECIFICATIONS / SPECS:

Cabinet / Speaker design:
 3-Way / 3-Driver Bass Reflex via a 2.75" 'Tuned Port'
Driver Complement:
One 10-inch, steel frame woofer, dual 3-inch steel frame cone tweeters firing in a direct / indirect combination
Nominal Impedance:
8Ω
Cross-over frequency:
1.5kHz Cross Over Point for lower freq tweeter and 2.5k for upper freq tweeter
Power rating:
115 IEC rating
Recommended Power amplifier rating:
20 watts minimum to 230 watts max amplifier rating

If you're a Bose fan, 501's are a great 'all around sounding' speaker. Great balance, solid handling of bass (improved bass over the earlist series as the series IV is a 'Bass Reflex' design), good top end detail and well suited for about every genre of music. Again if you're after a pair of "Vintage" Bose, the 501's are one of the most famous of their designs. These are in NEAR NEW cosmetic shape with the only issue being a missing logo from one of the grills. The top edge banding vinyl veneer all perfect. The cabinet corners and edges all sharp and crisp. Virtually no wear to the tops. The original grill frames solid and cloth in beautiful condition and required only minor cleaning.
And remember, we have just replaced the foam surrounds on all woofers, for trouble free service. Following the above work, we completely tested them with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-5,000 Hz and feeding them with the output from our Hafler P-225 Pro Power Amp, looking for any vibrations or other anomalies. We then further auditioned with a myriad of our difficult to reproduce 'test' CD's. Entire cabinet has been frequency swept while being powered by our Hafler test amp. They sounded great! Given that the 'IV' series covers almost 10 YEARS it was obviously a successful, proven design! Cabinets measure 25" H x 16" W x 15" D  and weigh 42 lbs each. Comes with an emailed copy of the owners manual. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering)

CLASSIC JBL
JBL 4301B BROADCAST / STUDIO MONITORS
/ STEREO SPEAKERS
FROM THEIR 'PROFESSIONAL SERIES'
#...2142 & 2145
Circa mid 1980-85
 MADE IN USA

SOLD 2/16/16
SHIPPED TO ILLINOIS

One of the famous 'Studio Monitors' from JBL, the JBL 4301B. Great speaker for audio / video production 'near fields', for a project / home recording studio, or if you just want a fantastic 'dynamite in a small package' home audio speaker. They are capable of fairly high volume levels while producing "pounding" & "tight" bass with great balance on the top and mid end. Just a great 'all-around' speaker for home audio listening or recording ‘studio monitor’ use. Just as happy with a medium-small size amp as they are with amps of larger size (probably not efficient enough to enjoy with a small wattage, under 25 watts or single ended tube amp).
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'certified' these. All drivers were removed and bench tested. Woofers were sent out and re-foamed prior to arriving to us. We re-riveted the often problematic input terminals on the 116H drivers (issues are found when you do an 'AF sweep' on these and other models utilizing similar input attachment designs. These, as typical, exhibited the issue from about 300-1200Hz.)
We then
reinstalled the drivers into cabinet with ‘added’ gasketing material under their frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies. Tweeter attenuator has typical 'Ni-Chrome' wire / wiper audible sensation, but no dead spots and certainly no noise once settled in position. Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Then came our standard, 'abusive' test recordings. The REAL, 'American Black Walnut' wood veneered, 3/4" thick cabinets were spruced up with a coat of lemon oil. Original 'Navy blue' speaker grill cloth, frames and attachment pins all in fine shape, and cloth was cleaned as well. Grill badges still have their original protective, plastic, coating on them. It's never been peeled off!

Great balance, power handling and overall 'tone' quality
.

From an original JBL brochure, circa 1980,

“The JBL 4301B shares its basic performance characteristics with all the other JBL monitors - exceptional clarity, wide dynamic range, solid bass and open high frequency reproduction

JBL 4301B FEATURES:

- 2-Way, Acoustic Suspension cabinet design
- 8" / 200mm, JBL 116H, Die-Cast-aluminum framed, "Ribbed", cone woofer, w/ 2”, copper ribbon Voice Coil.
- 1.25" / 36mm JBL LE26 Tweeter, Die-Cast-aluminum framed, w/ 5/8” copper wound VC & Non-deteriorating paper surround Cone-Tweeter
- "Real" internal 2-Way cross-over
- Hi attenuator on front panel for custom tailoring sound to your tastes and listening room
- 2.75" tuned port for extending bass response
- Real wood, American Black Walnut Veneer Finish on well built, 3/4" thick, heavy wall cabinet
- Speaker input connectors have been upgraded from the historically anemic JBL connectors used during the previous era. They were also removed and burnished.

JBL 4301B SPECIFICATIONS / SPECS:

Frequency Response: 45-15kHz (-3dB @ 50Hz)
Efficiency: ~88dB 1w @ 1m
Nominal Impedance: 8Ω each
Cross-over frequencies: 2.5kHz
Polar Response:
no less than 6dB @ 90
°
Continuous / Max power rating: 15 continuous sine wave watts, to clean peaks of ten fold

The JBL 4301B's were offered in the same era that gave us the such great JBL models such as the JBL L26 & L36 ‘Decade’ series speakers, JBL L100 Centurys, the JBL L300A ‘Summit’ speakers, JBL 150A's, and of course the industry standard, JBL 4310, 4311 4311B & 4312 studio monitors. Again, we have completely tested all drivers at individually applicable frequencies with a sweep generator looking for any irregular anomalies in either the drivers or cabinet structure integrity. These have most everything we look for in a home audio speaker such as 'balance', detail, power handling, accuracy, punch and 'largeness of sound'. Plenty of top end that can be filtered / tailored to your tastes with built-in attenuators. Deep low-end that still stays incredibly tight and handles power well (we tested with our standard Hafler DH500 power amp, with the volume generally at 10:30 to 11:00 O'clock. They are able to handle "power" better MUCH than your average speaker. Not simply referring to they're wattage rating, but just the way the perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. These were overall among the top performers of the many speakers we have auditioned over the years for balance, punch, tightness and power handling. Overall a FUN speaker to listen to.
JBL 4301B's are probably one of the most ‘listenable’ speaker you will own for ‘all-around’ music genres and power applications.
If you are looking for a great performing pair of small, near field studio monitors, or just FANTASTIC, bookshelf home audio speakers, sonically as well as cosmetically, then here you go! Comes with a pdf, download ‘e-copy’ of the original, JBL 4301B brochure. Each measures 19" h x 11.5" w x 12.2" d and weighs 26 lbs unpacked. VINTAGE PIONEER STEREO SPEAKERS
PIONEER HPM-100 SPEAKERS

#...2395 / 6046
Made in Japan

Circa mid 19
76-80
SOLD 2/10/16
SHIPPED TO GEORGIA

One of the top 'Classics' and one of the most sought after speaker models ever made. The Pioneer HPM-100's. It's hard to expand on what's already been written out there about these speakers.
This pair is also THE CLEANEST, most 'issue-free' pair we've had! In fact, Original, REAL Walnut Wood veneer in impeccable condition. Grills and grill frames in great condition. All grill locating pins intact and functioning. Only the most minor 'snags' to the nylon cloth. No breaks, cat 'pee' stains, tears, rips to the original grill cloth. Also, VERY importantly, NONE of the very common 'midrange wrinkling' that for some reason happens to about 50% of the HPM-100's we see.

ü  Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' these speakers.

ü  Speakers were entirely disassembled.

ü  Attenuators were removed, completely disassembled (not really designed to be done, but is necessary and requires a lot of 'tedious' effort), cleaned of old / 'sticky' lube, and burnished the silver plated tracks with a fiberglass pen for static free operation, re-lubed and re-assembled. That operation is the only way to ensure the mids and tweeters on these and most any speaker with a 'rotary attenuator' will function properly for years to come.

ü  Super Tweeters replaced. This is much more involved than it might sound on the surface. We have previously written about the Super Tweeters on HPM's on some of our other pages, so we won't belabor it here, but suffice to say we ordered in and bench tested 7 tweeters to get 2 that not only functioned 'CONSISTENTLY' (meaning not just when 'torsionally stressed'), but had 'strong' (strong for this particular tweeter) and 'matched' output. That is, needless to say, an 'expensive' and time consuming additional process.

ü  One 'Tweet and additional gasketing material under all driver frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies.

ü  Following reassembly, both were tested PN and swept them with our AF generator from all the way down to 5Hz-10kHz.

ü  One of the crossovers had a blown-up (literally) 'top end' capacitor, but all the drivers in the speaker still functioned, and this would not have been caught if we hadn't done our standard disassembly / inspection. We could have changed the capacitor, but it was either to simply install a replacement crossover.

ü  Crossover components and internal circuit boards were further inspected for any possible 'sympathetic' component vibrations.

ü  Our tech then added 'poly-spun', acoustic damping material internally as Pioneer seemed a bit 'stingy' originally.

Cabinets cleaned, then had a coat of Lemon Oil rubbed into the 'real' Walnut wood veneer and are in great shape.  Both grills and frames in great shape, with no breaks or broken / missing pins. Both Pioneer HPM-100 logos intact. These speakers look and perform great!

Incredible power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" MUCH better than your average speaker. Not simply referring to they're wattage rating, but just the way the perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler
er' replaced. What's the 'big deal' there. Well...we tested 2 (the original and a spare we ordered that supposedly "worked find" that exhibited minor to very noticeable 'buzzing' when swept from 3k to 9kHz (wouldn't have likely shown up if you're only testing with random, recorded material as most sellers do). The third on (out of one in our personal collection) did not have a 'buzz' and sounded great so we utilized that one (we'll get a replacement for ours later)

Pioneer HPM-100 Features:

- 4-Way, 4-Driver, Bass Reflex cabinet design

- 12" / 30cm, Die-Cast-aluminum framed, "Ribbed", Carbon-Fiber impregnated Woofer
- 4" Die-Cast-aluminum framed, Non-deteriorating paper surround Midrange

- 180
°, Semi-Cylindrical, HPM (High Polymer Molecular) 'Super Tweeter' for virtually Zero inertia response
- "Real" internal cross-over
- Hi and Mid attenuators on rear input panel for custom tailoring sound to your tastes and listening room
- 3" tuned port for extending bass response
- Real wood Walnut Veneer Finish on well built, heavy wall cabinet
- "Spring-clip"  speaker connectors

Pioneer HPM-100 Specifications / Specs:

Frequency Response: 30-25,000Hz ± 3dB

Again, we have completely tested all drivers.

HEY, WHY ALL THE 'X'd' OUT / OMITTED SPECS AND TEXT?

Yes, we know, EVERYTHING (at least all the receivers) are SOLD OUT
currently.
We will be posting more in the future.
We are currently focusing resources on expanding our receiver 'Parts Department' AND 'refurbished' stereo receivers sell faster than we can get them refurbished, and it's a slow process getting them ready.
