AS-IS, DIY COSMETIC RESTORATION

for sale

Our technician has mechanically & electrically gone through this table, which involves disassembly, cleaning inside and out and the balance of efforts listed below.

Original Start / Run capacitor works fine.

Motor and Suspension tensioned disassembled and lubed
(tech note: Motor thrust bearing in excellent condition...motor has lots of torque, smooth and quiet)

Spindle disassembled, cleaned, thrust pad removed and examined to be in excellent condition. Lubed with synthetic machine oil. (tech note: very quiet and smooth. Test spin with no belt results in platter coasting for 1 minute and 45 seconds!)

Tested / analyzed and passed for motor noise and 60Hz hum.

Fresh, new 'Lord Rubber' motor mount grommets installed

Fresh, new 35.1 FRB drive belt installed

Platter runs currently runs at 95.5% correct at +4.5% (filing / machining the motor pulley down would improve it further)

Platter tested for 'true flat' with no 'run-out'

Tone Arm weighting and tracking adjusts well and accurately.

Original platter mat intact and supple

Professional "Troubador" series, Empire 398G / 208G / 980G Belt-Drive, Fully Manual, 3-Speed turntable. Very rare table, and first one we've had in over two decades (actually have owned this for nearly that long, but just now getting to it).
From the original 1963 Empire Troubador turntable ad, "A Professional turntable and arm finished in luxurious satin gold, and no larger than the average-size changer...a royal feast for the eyes and ears!...Presenting a splendid, new professional arm featuring perfect dynamic balance...even tracks upside down!"

Empire 398G Turntable Features:

Normally we would completely refurbish / restore a table. This one had two 'cosmetic' issues that were beyond our 'skill sets' or we simply didn't want to tackle. The first, and primary issue for us was the surface oxidation on most of the table, but especially the tone-arm. It simply wasn't practical for use to try and rectify or pursue. Second issue was the 'checking / flaking' of the original 'tinted finish' on the base. We have a guy that could have re-finished it for us, but then we're back to the 'oxidation' issue that we weren't going to address, so we would end up with a great looking base, but the balance of the table's cosmetic issues would now 'stand out'.
I have an affinity for this table, as every time I go to 'High End' audio shows, it's the table that is used by many of the speaker, cartridge, phono-pre-amp and amplifier dealers / manufacturers as they're way of demonstrating their gear. Part of my thought process is to keep it for myself (I don't mind my gear have a bit of 'cosmetic character / battle scars. Most of my old favorite guitars and amps have plenty of 'road rash'), but I really don't have room for a third / fourth table in my current system (but of course that could change). So until I decide to keep it, it's for sale in 'working well, but 'as-is' cosmetic condition.

Again, our turntable tech has gone through the mechanicals / electricals of this table, and following restoration was tested for speed accuracy, rumble, wow & flutter, noise isolation, and tone-arm function.
Table looks good, sounds and works great! Again, comes with Shure cartridge, but needs a stylus (we can install something else if the purchaser desires for the cost of the cartridge).
Measures 17" wide x 15" deep x 8.5" tall and weighs a
HEAVY 36 lbs unpacked.
Partially restored Empire 398G (208G turntable on 73-RU-096 Walnut base, and 980G tone-arm.)

TEAC CX-650R

#...6614
With DOLBY NR
MADE IN JAPAN!
Circa 1980-82

for sale

Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and 'Certified' this unit which involves complete removal and disassembly of the entire transport (not an easy task on this deck), cleaning inside and out, DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below.

Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further restoration work).

Head rotating gear inspected with a jewelers loop prior to starting any restoration work, and found to be 'hairline' crack free.

Capstan motor spindle bushing re-lubed

Capstan burnished

Internal 23VDC power supply tested to 23.2Volts

2X NEW, 'reel drive' tires installed for years of trouble-free service. (These are actually much more important to replace on this deck (and most) than the belts. Without these, the deck won't fast wind very well, and will likely 'eat tapes' as the 'take-up' reel won't turn properly)

New Main Drive and Counter belts installed for trouble-free service.

Rubber pinch rollers have been reconditioned

Both Flywheel 'belt surfaces' solvent cleaned

Bronze Flywheel bushings solvent cleaned

Both Flywheel thrust pads cleaned

Entire flywheel assemblies re-lubed upon re-assembly

Head rotating mechanism's movement was slightly impeded by 'old lube' (as expected), and was cleaned and re-lubed.

Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport.

Head alignments and azimuth at both 1kHz and 10kHz adjusted for BOTH directions for 'peak performance' with O-Scope

All internal pots, switches and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function.

FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive.

'Silicone Damped' Eject door operates smoothly.

Tape Counter Function tested

Dolby NR circuits / function tested

'Memory / Zero Return' function tested

Heads are in great condition

Internal playback levels adjusted for even playback w/ alignment tape, Oscilloscope, and mVAC meter

Playback meters adjusted for 'playback' zero'd with factory test tone tape.

Internal Record amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!

Overall floor noise measured at >-60dB.

Speed adjusted internally to 100% accuracy BOTH directions, with 1kHz factory calibration tape and frequency counter (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 1Hz)

Cosmetically, the deck looks great. The only issue worth mentioning is an old repair, to the lower / underneath edge of the 'wood grain wrapped' case / cabinet (really only notice it when you 'feel' it with your fingers trying to move the deck (not worth taking photos of). Other than that, it looks NEAR NEW!

Plays great and after adjustment, records AMAZINGLY well w/ following results:

> With Pink Noise recorded @-5dB w/o Dolby engaged PB @-1dB & @-10dB w/o Dolby engaged PB @ 0dB on Maxell UDXL-II / High Bias tapes

> With 1kHz recorded at 0dB with Dolby engaged on Maxell UR (normal bias) & Maxell XL-II (high bias) tapes PB @ 0dB

> With 10kHz recorded at 0dB with Dolby engaged on Maxell XL-II (High bias) tapes plays back @-6dB

With 'ddd' CD recorded at 0dB with Dolby engaged: 0 to-1dB on Maxell UDXL-II / High Bias tapes

Bottom line is this deck sounds amazing for playback or recording (always make sure you're playing back 'good quality' tape recordings)
Total technician time to restore 10.5+ HOURS!
____________________________

The Teac CX-650R, Auto-Reverse with 'Bi-Directional Recording', Stereo Cassette Tape Deck. Great deck for doing your tape transfers if your tapes were recorded with no NR or with "Dolby B" or for making some awesome 'new' recordings or 'mix tapes' (hey, it's 'the thing' again). This deck is a pleasure to use, and has a great 'feel' due to it's size and transport function. As far as cosmetics, it's BEAUTIFUL. Was taken very good care of before it came to us, and is even more astounding now. The deck and the wood grain case could convince you that time had rolled back almost 40 years, and you were seeing it at the original store's retail display.

Teac CX-650R Features include:

- Heavy duty transport featuring 'oversized' capstan motor, and VERY large, 'asymmetrical' flywheels
- Triple-Mode Auto-Reverse, with 'Bi-Directional' Recording (not just 'A' side recording!)

-  "Soft touch-control" tape transport
- Selector for Normal (EX / I), CrO2 (SX / II) & Metal (ZX / IV) Tape Type
- 3-Position Selector for Tape Equalization for Normal (EX / I), CrO2 (SX / II) & Metal (ZX / IV) Tape Type on playback
- Dual Analog VU Level Meters
- Analog counter
- Built-in MPX filter for killing the 19kHz pilot tone in FM transmissions
- Variable Output Level control (one of the most important features on a deck in our opinion)
- Dolby B NR
- Record Muting
- 'Auto-Space' records a 4-second space prior to 'stop' when engaged.
- Real 'Potentiometer' Record level controls that are 'gear coupled' (meaning when you turn one, the other one responds as well. They can be turned independently for 'fine adjustment' as they're 'clutch coupled' as well)
- Memory Stop / Repeat for counter
- Dual, Front mounted, 1/4", Microphone Jacks
- Front mounted, 1/4", Stereo Headphone jack
- Timer Play / Record function.
- Multi-pin port on rear panel for optional wired remote, TEAC RC-100 (remote not included)

Again, we have completely cleaned, refurbished / serviced and thoroughly tested this Teac CX-650R cassette tape deck.
Great for transferring your no NR or Dolby B NR encoded tape collection to CD, Hard-drive or MP3 especially with the 'Tape EQ' selector for 'fine tuning' older tapes. Built very well! Looks like new, works perfectly and sounds fabulous.
Due to it's size, overall feel, the 'input controls' and the 'transport control' this deck really is a blast to use. Comes with an 'e-copy / pdf download' of the TEAC CX-650R cassette tape deck owners / users / instruction manual. Measures 18.5" wide x 13.5" deep x 7" tall and also weighs a VERY HEAVY 26 lbs unpacked. Just in-case you 'too casually' read past that last little bit,
IT'S A TWENTY-SIX POUND CASSETTE DECK!

PRE-OWNED
BUFFET CLARINET
MODEL B12
INTERMEDIATE STUDENT Bb CLARINET

for sale

This clarinet is modeled after the Famous Buffet Grenadilla wood clarinets from the 'old day's'. When I worked for a 'full-line' music store thru the 1990's, we would periodically have a 'vintage' Buffet come thru and they never hung around long once serviced for re-sale. It is what most clarinet players asked for. That and Yamaha's.  This is a Buffet B12 clarinet, again, designed after the 'vintage' horns for the student / beginner and into the intermediate market. The Buffet B12 clarinets are made from ABS resin with an appearance and sound similar to that of genuine Grenadilla wood. These models are lightweight, strong and easy to clean perfect for even very young players. The Buffet B12 model has a very attractive and traditional design with nickel-plated body rings, straight key work and a traditional bell ring. The body is buffed to give the appearance of wood. The nickel silver key work is cold forged and induction soldered, providing greater stability, precision and quality. The B12 model is mounted with double fish skin pads which ensure excellent sealing.

 Features:
- Nickel plated keys, body rings & plated bell rings
- 65mm barrel
- 14.65mm poly-cylindrical bore
- Arched key cups (same as R-13 model)
- Staggered trill keys (same as R-13 model)
- Blue Needle Springs
- Adjustable 3-position thumb rest
- Ergonomic key design: Improved playing comfort like that of a professional clarinet
- Pointed needle springs for quality key action
- Undercut tone holes for improved tone quality and faster response
- High quality Double fish skin pads enables air tightness and are long lasting
- Blow-molded, hard shell case

Mouthpiece Assembly with Ligature, Cap and Mouthpiece

-           Cork Grease

-           Cleaning Swab

This clarinet retails for $925.00 (US).

AUDIO-TECHINCA
STEREO HOME AUDIO / PRO TURNTABLE
MODEL AT-LP120USB
DIRECT DRIVE
FULLY MANUAL RETURN
WITH A GREAT DIAMOND CARTRIDGE NOW INCLUDED
NEW
for sale
One of the few 'QUALITY' turntables available under a $GRAND these days! The Audio-Technica AT-LP120 stereo turntable. Similar in design to some of the vintage turntable models, such as the Kenwood KD-550 'concrete base', the Sony PS-T1, and the Technics SL-1500, SL-1600MK2 or SL-D2 turntable models. This professional stereo turntable features a high-torque, direct-drive motor for quick start-ups yet is perfectly quiet. Classic 'S' shaped tone arm with 'universal' head-shell that allows mounting of most any 'quality', 1/2' cartridge, either MM (moving magnet) or MC (moving coil). Tone-arm mounted in high quality 4-point, Gimbol bearing.
NEW UPDATE--- Now having the table shipped with a much better cartridge than previously. It's now using one of our favorite 'all around' cartridge the AT-95E, instead of the 'clunkier' AT-2N (that cartridge liked to track at an incredibly heavy 3.5 Grams!!! Yuck...) Click here for further info on the cartridge.

NEW UPDATE--- We're now including the Audio-Technica AT-95E, MM, Elliptically cut diamond cartridge with tables purchased from us at Oak Tree Vintage.

Overall Table has good mass at over 20 lbs!

Features:

- Direct drive high-torque motor
- Fully-Manual operation
- Selectable 33/45/78 RPM speeds (you will need to acquire a stylus / cartridge designed for playing '78 RPM' records to utilize that feature to it's fullest)
- Professional weight cast aluminum platter with slip mat (no PLASTIC platters here, unlike many of the NEW tables out there!)
- -inch mount universal head shell
- Quartz Locked speed
or
- Strobe monitored, adjustable platter speed
- Adjustable tone-arm counter weight
- Adjustable 'Anti-Skating' control
- 500,000 Silicon oil fluid hydraulic tone-arm cueing
- Internal Built-in Phono Pre-Amp of decent quality so if you MUST use this with some sort of 'home-theater-surround-sound-5.1, 7.2, or 8.BR549 receiver' that the manufacturer forgot to include the phono pre-amp on. If you have a 'REAL receiver', ie, an old-school, vintage, 2-channel receiver or integrated amp or pre-amp with a phono pre built-in, then you can flip a switch and bypass the 'built-in' phono preamp.
- USB outputconnects directly to your computer for plug-&-play use
- Forward or reverse play (this is a DJ feature, and if you value your vinyl or cartridge, DON'T USE 'Reverse'! If you have a crappy cartridge and are playing 'Frisbees', then 'go for it' if you're so inclined!
-
*Comes with Mac- and PC-compatible Audacity software and cables to digitize your LPs
If you appreciate the 'organic' sound of quality vinyl, then disregard the above stuff 'USB / SOFTWARE STUFF' and just 'LISTEN' to your vinyl the way it was meant.

Professional DJ / Club table. Quality tool for the 'long haul'! The Audio-Technica AT-LP1240-USB DJ turntable. Similar in design to some of the vintage turntable models, such as the Kenwood KD-550 'concrete base', the Sony PS-T1, and the Technics SL-1500, SL-1600MK2 or SL-D2 turntable models. This professional stereo turntable features a super high-torque, direct-drive motor for quick start-ups yet is perfectly quiet. Classic 'S' shaped tone arm with 'universal' head-shell that allows mounting of most any 'quality', 1/2' cartridge, either MM (moving magnet) or MC (moving coil). Tone-arm mounted in high quality 4-point, Gimbol bearing.

The AT-LP1240-USB plays back 33-1/3, 45 and 78 RPM records (78 is selected by pressing both 'speed' select buttons simultaneously). Its built-in phono preamp enables the turntable to be connected to a wide variety of music and home entertainment systems, powered speakers, and to A/V receivers that do not include a dedicated phono input (de-featable for 'old schooool' and 'REAL' receivers and integrated amplifiers that 'DO' have a built-in phono pre-amp. The turntable includes PC- and Mac-compatible Audacity software that converts the audio on a record to MP3, WAV or other format digital audio files.

NEW UPDATE--- We're now including the Audio-Technica AT-95E, MM, Elliptically cut diamond cartridge with tables purchased from us at Oak Tree Vintage.

Table has great mass at almost 30 lbs!

Professional features for DJ use in nightclubs, touring & mobile applications:

- Direct drive high-torque motor
- Quartz Locked Speed Control System or 'Manual' Strobe Speed controls
*- Adjustable Braking Rate (0.2 6.0 seconds)
*- Adjustable Starting Rate (0.2 6.0 seconds)
*- Dual Platter / Motor 'Start' / 'Stop' controls
- Fully-Manual operation
- Selectable 33/45/78 RPM speeds
(you will need to acquire a stylus / cartridge designed for playing '78 RPM' records to utilize that feature to it's fullest)
- Professional weight cast aluminum platter with slip mat (no PLASTIC platters here, unlike many of the NEW tables out there!)
- Classic 'S' style tone-arm
- High quality 4-point Gimbol bearing
- -inch mount universal head shell
- Strobe monitored, adjustable platter speed
- Fluid damped tone arm cuing
- Adjustable tone-arm counter weight
- Adjustable 'Anti-Skating' control
*- Adjustable Tone-Arm bearing height
*- 45 puck storage pin

VINTAGE NAD STEREO INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER
NAD 3120
STEREO INTEGRATED AMP
"STABLE DOWN TO 2 Ohms!!!"

#...1893
Circa 1984-86

SOLD 4/6/18
SHIPPED TO JEFF IN MICHIGAN

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

Following both internal and external visual inspection, the entire unit was cleaned out including all contacts, switches and controls. Switches now clean sounding and performing fine.

Silicone heat sink compound inspected for suppleness

We adjusted / set the Output section bias / DC offset to BETTER THAN factory spec (check our results below).

All functions tested for perfect operation.

 All inputs and functions tested.

Both amplifier sides produce clean and even sine waves! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent!

Following electronic refurbishing, the entire unit was cosmetically detailed

Following restoration procedures, the unit was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a 4 Ohm load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours.

While this amp was originally rated at 25 WPC on our test bench the internal amplifiers of this particular unit, #...1893, produced 19 Volts per channel at 8 Ohms for 45 Watts per channel and  16 Volts at 4 Ohms for
64 Watts per channel via discrete, outputs (2x RCA 2N3055 & MJ2955)
Idle current draw .2A
DC offset, while the NAD 3120 service manual specs anything less than "50mV", and we originally measured this one, #...1893 at over 44mV / Channel, following our bench service it's now at only <2.0mV!!! on either side.
Very quiet with Floor noise measured at >-60dBm / 0.1 mVAC.

Great performing and 'classic' looking NAD 3120 Integrated Amplifier. Essentially a more 'pure' version of it's predecessor, the 3120, in that they removed the 'tone control' circuit, and the LED power display.
Amazing sounding integrated power amplifier
to provide the heart of a smaller to medium sized Hi-Fi system or 'project recording studio'. Unit looks, works and sounds great!

From the original Brochure,
"Designed for Real-World Performance: Specification tables and magazine test reports confirm that virtually all modern amplifiers measure well in the lab, with impressive figures for parameters such as the power output at 8 Ohms and the S/N with a shorted phono input.  But outside of the lab, amps are not all equal.
At home you don't listen to signal generators, short-circuits or 8-Ohm test resistor loads. you listen to complex and dynamic musical waveforms, generated by phono cartridges and reproduced through loudspeakers whose true impedance is rarely stable at only 8 Ohms.  So, rather than incorporating costly refinements that yield little or no audible benefit, NAD's "real world" approach to product design is focused on obtaining optimum performance under the conditions of everyday use....
Instead of the usual low-cost IC, the phono preamplifier section is a newly designed, discrete transistor circuit whose performance matches that of far more expensive preamp systems.  It interfaces correctly with the 'high impedance' of many magnetic pickup cartridges: it's RIAA equalization is precise: and it is virtually 'distortion-less'- not only with simple 'sine-wave' test tones, but also with dynamic, 'musical waveforms', 30dB above average level.  It's signal / noise ratio is close to the theoretical limit, not only with the short-circuit input that is often used for specifications, but also when a cartridge is connected.  It's total dynamic range is approximately 106dB."

NAD 3120 Features include:

- Discrete Output, Class A-B Amplifier design
- Impedance selector for either 8 or 4 Ohms speakers, which means that you can get 100% of the potential power into just one pair of 8 Ohm speakers. (most amplifiers do not deliver more than 50 to 70% of their 'potential' power unless connected to a 4 Ohm load. This is BIG DEAL!)
- Pre-Out / Main-In loop
-
I/O jacks and Speaker output posts feature 'Point to Point' wiring, so connections are 'stress free' on the circuit boards (all gear should be designed like this, but its 'too expensive' for most of the general public now
- 'Speaker / Tweeter Saving' "Soft Clipping" (defeatable if listener desires or to do 'bench testing')

- 'TRUE' Tape monitor (Tape Monitors can be used with Video / CD / DVD / VCR / DAT / MP3 / iPod / iPad / iPhone / iTouch / iGadget / MP3 / XM / SIRUS CDR (CD recorders as well as for inserting signal processors, such as EQ's, Reverbs, Spatial Enhancers / Dynamic Processors, Noise Reduction units, Special Effects units, Time Delays, etc)
- Phono / Turntable input
- 'Moving Coil' or 'Moving Magnet' cartridge selector (which means there is a 'head amp' for MC built-in. That alone is worth quite a lot of $$$)
- Tuner input (can also be used for ( Video / CD / DVD / VCR / DAT / MP3 / iPod / iPhone / iTouch / iGadget / MP3 / XM / SIRUS etc. inputs)

- Loudness control. "Loudness" functions to boost Bass and Treble in relationship to Mid frequencies at lower volume levels for a much fuller sound
-  Heavy duty, 'Binding / Banana' post speaker outputs
- 1/4" stereo headphone jack
- Dual AC Convenience outlets (1 switched and 1 un-switched) with a total capacity of 250 Watts

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

Following ext / int visual inspection entire unit was cleaned inside and out

All three 'control' PCB's removed to allow cleaning of ALL contacts, switches and control pots.

 Bias adjusted to correct spec.

Switches and controls now clean sounding and performing solidly
(only exception is the 'High Filter'. It's 'lock' is a bit 'finicky' so if you want to 'bypass' the Hi-Filter, you need to engage it rather 'solidly' to get it to lock (stay in) ).

All functions tested for perfect operation.

All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves!

No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent!

Following electronic refurb, entire unit was cosmetically detailed (It's BEAUTIFUL!!!).

This is first and only one Realistic SA-2000 we've had in 23 years. Classic brushed aluminum face plate with the original aluminum knobs.
Following 12+ hours of restoration procedures, the unit was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a 4 Ohm load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours.
Total technician time to restore 8 hours. (Tech noted on work sheet, "VERY nice build quality inside and out. Mint condition")

On our test bench the internal amplifiers of this particular unit, #...1087, produced 24 Volts per channel at 8 Ohms for 72 Watts per channel and 20 Volts at 4 Ohms for 100 Watts per channel via discrete, TO-3 / Metal Cased outputs (Toshiba 2SD426) (test at 1kHz, single channel at a time).
Idle current draw 0.425A.
Very quiet with Floor noise measured at <00.0 mVAC /->60dBm.

CLASSIC & VERY EARLY FUKUIN ELECTRIC CO. / PIONEER HI-FI / STEREO SPEAKERS
PIONEER "TITAN IV"? SPEAKER
Circa 1960-61

for sale

Massive
and VERY EARLY Pioneer 'Hi-Fi' speakers, direct from Japanese market. These appear to be original, factory built, Pioneer Titan IV speakers. The 1960 driver complement in these were typically offered in the US as 'kit' form (due to impracticality of SHIPPED such voluminous cabinets from Japan) but according to their consignor, these were brought over by a GI on military transport, so economics was not an issue. He purchased them originally in Japan. These are among the first drivers branded 'Pioneer' from the original parent company Fukuin Electric Co. The company changed it's name to Pioneer in 1960 or 61. There are probably less than an 'handful' of these in the US (if that) and probably only a few dozen in the world. If you want the rarest of the rare Pioneer speakers, here you go. These things are MONSTROUS!
"Hey, Go Big or Go Home!"
Their huge drivers are both efficient and seem to be power capable
(handled our Hafler P225 well, but as always, be careful with irreplaceable 'vintage speakers).
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these.
He has completely disassembled them further, testing all drivers independently. No material issues found with any of the drivers. Each was 'swept' with the AF generator while removed. All drivers were re-installed with the addition of gasketing material to further seal and eliminate any flange to baffle rattles and buzzes. Attenuators removed and cleaned for static free operation. Gasketing added to the attenuator plates prior to re-installation as well. We also 'modernized' the input connectors (gasketing also added to their mounting plates). Gasketing also installed on rear panel, prior to re-installation. He also installed new, height adjustable, leveling, 'glide' feet. Entire speaker system then swept with our AF generator from 20-5,000 Hz and feeding them with the output from our Hafler P-225 Pro Power Amp, looking for any irregular vibrations / anomalies in either the drivers. driver mounting, crossovers or cabinet structure integrity.  Next we auditioned them with our standard, 'abusive' demo / testing CD's / cuts running the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ, our 'Usher Speaker' demo CD (no not that Usher), 'Friday Night in San Francisco', with Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia, Nickel Creek's, "When in Rome" from the CD, "Why Should the Fire Die", Jennifer Warnes, "Famous Blue Raincoat", and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
Very 'large' sounding cabs. I did prefer them with an EQ, but I know you 'purists' would 'cringe' at that idea.

Pioneer Titan IV Speaker Features include:

- 3-way, Bass-Reflex design
- 12" Pioneer PW-30C, Cast Aluminum frame, Low Frequency' Driver (woofer) w/ vented Voice Coil and AlNiCo magnet / motor.
- 6" Pioneer PM-16B midrange 16 Ohms & AlNiCo magnet / motor.
- 3" x 2.5" Pioneer PT-6, 16 Ohms Horn Tweeter w/ AlNiCo magnet / motor.
- Infinitely variable L-Pad for Tweeter attenuation
- Pioneer DN-7 2-Way / 3-Way Crossover
- 11.5" x 8" Tuned Port

Pioneer Titan IV Speaker Specifications:

System Design:
3-Way, Bass Reflex
Driver Compliment: PW-30C 12", Cast Frame Woofer, PM-16B midrange / Squawker, PT-6 Horn Tweeter & DN-7 Crossover.
Frequency Response: ~35-20,000Hz

 Nominal Impedance:
16Ω

Cross-over frequency: Pioneer DN-7 500Hz & 4kHz @ 12dB / Oct

Power rating: likely 25-40
Watts

The real wood, Mahogany veneer cabinets in INCREDIBLE shape, as are the original grills. They are virtually blemish / mark free and look like they could still be on the original show room floor. The cabinets have just had a fresh coat Howards 'Restore-a-Finish' and 'Feed-n-Wax' rubbed in to bring out their original luster. Again, our speaker tech has completely refurbished, tested and Certified these speakers performing the previously mentioned processes.

Great speaker for a lower powered 'vintage' Hi-Fi system, or that low wattage or 'single ended' tube amplifier. They look, work and sound great! Cabinets measure 38" H x 27.25" W x 17.75" D and weighs a hefty 90 lbs each
(due to their huge size once packed, the P,S & I on these to much of the lower 48 states of the US would run approx $450-$650. Locations such as North Eastern States, North Western Washington or Southern Fla would run more). Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering.

ESB (ELECTROACOUSTIC SYSTEMS BUILDING)  They are an impressive speaker in design, build quality, construction and sonics. Their detailed and balanced sonics are accomplished via a couple of design characteristics. One is the 'coupled' Midrange and Tweeter design. The other would be the a radical modification of Horizontal and Vertical alignment. From a 1984 review,
"A key element in the design of all the Series 7 speakers is what ESB calls DSR (for "distributed spectrum radiation"). which is intended to maintain accurate, consistent stereo imaging over a wide listening area. Vertically, this is achieved first by building the mid- and hi-frequency drivers on a single mounting flange, minimizing the distance (and therefore the interference) between them, so that they act as nearly as possible like a single point source... The method ESB uses to stabilize the image horizontally is a refinement of a familiar technique. 'Toeing in' a pair of speakers so that their forward radiating axis cross slightly in front of the listening position usually broadens the area in which you can sit without the stereo image collapsing into the speaker nearer to you."

These are great performing speakers for most any genre of music. We extensively tested them with our barrage of material. They were very balanced and handled power well. Probably not a speaker for every week party's, but for a great 'large' sound, you'll love them
. These are in beautiful physical condition as well.
Features include:

-
3-Way, Acoustic Suspension / Infinite Baffle cabinet design
- Asymmetrical / Mirror image cabinets w/ angled high-frequency baffle
- 10" Woofer with fresh foam surrounds (were re-foamed prior to their arrival to our shop. The tech utilized 'Cerwin-Vega' surrounds, which are 'red' in color, then 'blackened' them, with questionable success. Sound and perform fine, but noticeable cosmetically)
- 2" Hemispherical 'coated' silk dome midrange w/ heavy duty motor
'coupled' to tweeter plate
- 1" Hemispherical 'coated' silk dome tweeter w/ heavy duty motor 'coupled' to mid plate
- Heavy duty, Banana / Binding Post speaker input terminals
- Externally located, independent, glass fuse protection for all 3 drivers
- Incredibly well built crossover.
- Heavy build, 'acoustically solid' cabinets

Specifications:

Crossover points: 600Hz & 6,000Hz

Recommended Amplifier rating: 40 Watts minimum,
and
were originally tested when current with 300Hz bursts at 500 Watts

Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. The surrounds were recently replaced with 'Cerwin Vega' 'Red' foam, that was 'stained' black, prior to arriving to us. We have completely tested them with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-5,000Hz and feeding them with the output from our Hafler P-225 Pro Power Amp. Then further auditioned with a myriad of our difficult to reproduce 'test' CD's.
The real wood veneer, cabinets in beautiful shape with no serious 'battle scars'. Have been given a coat of Howards 'Restore a Finish' then buffed w/ 'Feed-n-Wax'. With the exception of one missing logo, the original black knit grills are in great shape and the original frames are structurally sound.
Again, these are great looking and sounding speakers and would be happy coupled with most any medium to large receiver / amp.
Cabinets measures 37.5" high x 15" wide x 11" deep and weighs a hefty 55 lbs each. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering).

(Due to the dimensions and / or weight of these speakers, Packing / SHIPPED will be somewhat more 'involved' than typical. Custom, double-wall boxes will be manufactured specifically for them. While we order custom built boxes often, this can sometimes delay SHIPPED by 5-10 days)

Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and 'Certified' this unit which involves complete removal and disassembly of the entire transport, cleaning inside and out, DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below.

Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further restoration work). These have virtually NO visible wear to them.

Capstan motor spindle bushing re-lubed

Capstan burnished

Internal DC power supply tested

2X NEW, Custom crafted / modified, 'reel drive' installed for years of trouble-free service. (These are actually much more important to replace on this deck (and most) than the belts. Without these, the deck won't fast wind very well, and will likely 'eat tapes' as the 'take-up' reel won't turn properly)

All new internal Drive and Counter belts installed for trouble-free service.

Rubber pinch rollers have been reconditioned

Both Flywheel 'belt surfaces' solvent cleaned

Bronze Flywheel bushings solvent cleaned

Both Flywheel thrust pads cleaned

Entire flywheel assemblies re-lubed upon re-assembly

Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport.

New Tape well lamp installed.

Head alignments and azimuth at 125Hz, 1kHz and 10kHz adjusted for 'peak performance' with O-Scope and original TEAC alignment tape

All internal pots, switches and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function.

Both spindles in perfect alignment.

FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive.

'Silicone Damped' Eject door operates smoothly.

Tape Counter Function tested

Dolby NR circuits / function tested

'Memory / Zero Return' function tested

Heads are in great condition

Internal playback levels adjusted for even playback w/ alignment tape, Oscilloscope, and mVAC meter

Playback meters adjusted for 'playback' zero'd with factory test tone tape.

Internal Record amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!

Overall floor noise measured at >-60dB.

Speed adjusted internally to 100% accuracy BOTH directions, with 1kHz factory calibration tape and frequency counter (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 2Hz)

Plays great and after adjustment, records AMAZINGLY well w/ following results;
With Pink Noise recorded at 0dB w/o Dolby engaged; -0dB on Maxell UDXL-II / High Bias tapes

Bottom line is this deck sounds amazing for playback or recording (always make sure you're playing back 'good quality' tape recordings)
Total technician time to restore 15+ HOURS!

The Teac C-3X, 2-SPEED & 3-HEAD, Stereo Cassette Tape Deck. Great deck for a 'project recording studio' as a 'mastering deck' (utilizing the 'High Speed'). Of course also makes an incredible 'home system' deck and of also a great deck for doing your tape transfers if your tapes were recorded with no NR or with "Dolby B". Think of making some awesome 'new' recordings or 'mix tapes' (hey, it's 'the thing' again). This deck is a pleasure to use, and has a great 'feel' due to it's size and transport function. As far as cosmetics, it's BEAUTIFUL. Was taken very good care of before it came to us, and is even more astounding now.

Teac C-3X Features include:

- Three Heads to allow monitoring of 'Actual Signal to Tape'
- Two Speeds; 1 7/8 ips (normal) and 3.75 ips (HIGH Speed for best recording quality)

- Front mounted, 1/4", Stereo Headphone jack
- Timer Play / Record function.
- Multi-pin port on rear panel for any optional dbx NR unit (not included)

Looks like new, works perfectly and sounds fabulous. Due to it's size, overall feel, the 'input controls' and the 'transport control' this deck really is a blast to use. Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and 'Certified' this unit which involves complete disassembly of the transport, cleaning inside and out, COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below.

Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further restoration work).

All drive tires reconditioned for trouble-free service.

All new internal rubber belts replaced for trouble-free service. (a note about the 'belt kits' out there. We were out of a couple of the belts we needed, so to make it easy / quick, we thought we'd order a 'belt kit' from an ebay seller (yes, we should know better). We installed them, and went on with the restoration. At the first opportunity to do some testing during it's 'bench time', we noticed 'fast' WOW / 'slow' Flutter when recording test tones (especially prevalent with recording, then playing back 'Piano' music). After spending 'hours' trying to track down the issues, and in the interim we had 're-stocked' our normal belts, changed out the ebay purchased ones for our 'stock' units, and the problem was solved. That seller was selling 'round' belts ("round belts" typically shouldn't be an issue), but the Marantz 5220 deck MUST have 'Square' belts. Just FYI (at our expense).)

Rubber pinch roller reconditioned

Capstan burnished

Missing Capstan thrust screw replaced

Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport.

Head alignments and azimuth checked and adjusted as necessary for 'peak performance' with O-Scope

All internal pots, switches and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function.

All internal light bulbs changed

All internal displays and LED's working fine.

Both hub spindles in perfect alignment.

FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive.

Heads in great shape as well, with many years of performance left in them and head alignment / azimuth has been checked for peak performance.

Both Internal playback amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Meters adjusted to even zero with symmetric input.

Both Internal Record amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!

Playback meters zero with factory test tone tape.

Tape Counter and 'Memory' Function tested

Plays perfectly and records well @ ~0dB (with Maxell UDXL-II tapes @ 1kHz) and @ ~-2.5dB (with TDK D tapes with Pink Noise)( we really put them through the paces, testing both with well mixed, recently recorded CD material and CD recorded / factory test tones looking for correct head Azimuth and speed accuracy).

Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!! -Both level meters playback even.

Speed adjusted internally to 100% accuracy with 1kHz factory test tape (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 1Hz)

Face is made of beautiful brushed aluminum, and overall the deck is in fabulous cosmetic condition. Following the extensive restoration, we did 'test recordings' of a 'ddd' CD on 6 tapes; Sony Normal Bias, Fuji Normal Bias, TDK Normal Bias, Maxell Normal Bias, TDK 'SA' High Bias, and Maxell 'XL-II' High Bias. We found that TDK 'D' / Normal Bias tape performed the best on this particular deck.
Total technician time to restore ~16 HOURS! (12 Hours Tech time, then another 3-4 hours testing / evaluating)

Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and 'Certified' this unit which involves complete removal and disassembly of the entire tape transport, cleaning inside and out, DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below (unit actually worked very well prior to disassembly as well).

Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further restoration work).

All new internal Capstan Drive belts replaced for trouble-free service.

New 'Shift Roller' acquired (from Slovikia) and installed.

Left Rubber pinch roller has been reconditioned

Capstan 'Thrust Bearings' cleaned and re-lubed w/ silicone based lube

Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport.

Head alignments and azimuth at 125Hz, 1kHz and 10kHz adjusted for 'peak performance' with O-Scope. Both channels now even w/ 'max' output.

All internal pots, switches and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function.

Both spindles in perfect alignment.

FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive.

Eject door 'Auto mechanism' operates smoothly.

Tape Counter Function tested

Dolby B & C NR circuits / function tested

HX-Pro tested

'Memory / Zero Return' function tested

Heads are in great condition

Meters adjusted to even zero with symmetric input.

Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!

Both Internal playback amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Meters adjusted to even zero with symmetric input.

Both Internal Record amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Playback meters zero with factory test tone tape.

Speed tests at 100% accuracy (this deck has a 'FG-Servo / Synchronous' motor with a circuit board mounted, 'Comparator' system to maintain perfect speed so is 'always' 'on speed'), with 1kHz factory calibration tape (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 1Hz)

Cosmetics are not great. The sheet metal case has some creases / dents (don't know how they got there), and the originally, optional Rose wood side panels have a few dents (don't know if they were there before someone acquired them, or happened after installation). The wood panels could be removed, and we thought about it, but even with their cosmetic issues, they add to it's overall look being left intact.
Plays perfectly and after adjustment, records AMAZINGLY well. Normally we would give a "dB Down or UP" rating / results, but this deck has so many ways to have it's record levels and quality 'tweaked' that there's no 'one number' that can be assigned to it. Yes it can record at 'positive dB's' but with different attributes depending on the tape type and how 'hot' you wish to record. We found the best results with at Maxell UDXL-II tapes. We tried recordings using the 'Calibration' system, but usually found that we liked adjusting the 'Bias' control to suit our ears. Then we discovered the +/-3dB 'Record Level' control (No not the typical "Input Level" control, that is always labeled "Record Level", but a control on the outside that gives you access to the actual 'internal "record level"' normally located on the circuit board and adjustable by a technician via 'pc mounted' pots. This opened up a whole new layer of recording that we normally only get to experiment with while a unit is on the bench.
While doing the test recording's, it became apparent that this decks recording capabilities were AMAZING.

Total technician time to restore 8+ hours.

The Sony TC-K850ES, 3-Head / 3-Motor Cassette Tape Deck. Great deck for doing your tape transfers if your tapes were recorded with no NR or with "Dolby B" or "Dolby C", but REALLY SHINES if you want to make new tapes as it's got HX-PRO and 'TONS' of serious recording features. Again, as stated above, records AMAZINGLY well! Also has 'gear driven' reel tables, which means there not 'pesky' idler tire or drive belts to worry about (which takes 'eating tapes' off the table).

SONY TC-K850ES Features include:

- 3 Heads (allows instantaneous monitoring of recordings for the best audio results)
- "Laseramorphous Magnetic Alloy" head (wow, that's a mouthful, but means that it's got a super accurately cut gap, and is of a 'really hard, non-magnetic material, which thus means, "it sounds good now and will for a long time")
-
*User adjustable RECORD LEVEL control (+/- 3dB, and NO, NOT the same as the typical 'Input (record) Level Control'
- User adjustable BIAS control
- Tape 'Calibration' system
- HX-PRO (HX-PRO is used to 'encode' your tapes as you record. Once a tape is encoded in HX Pro, it will playback on any deck, then exhibiting the benefits of HX-Pro)
- FG Capstan motor with 'Quartz Locked' speed (never needs adjusting and will always be 'speed accurate')
- 'Closed Loop / Dual Capstan' tape transport system

- 3 Motors
- IC logic "touch-control" tape transport
- Motor driven Tape Load and Eject
- Auto Selector for Normal (EX / I), CrO2 (SX / II) & Metal (ZX / IV)Tape Type
- Multi-Functional Fluorescent display window

- Digital, tape counter
- Dolby B&C NR
- Record Muting
- "CD DIRECT" input (bypasses MPX filter, Balance and likely other circuits)
- Built-in MPX filter for killing the 19kHz pilot tone in FM transmissions
- Input level control with L & R balance (balance control sometimes has best meter balance at somewhere between "11:00 and 1:00" depending on tape type and / or Biasing position and  / or 'Record Level' position)
- Memory Stop / Repeat for counter

- AMS (Automatic Music Sensor) system for finding next or previous tracks (must have a min of 4 seconds between tracks / songs)
- Front mounted, 1/4", Stereo Headphone jack
- Timer Play / Record function.

Again, we have completely cleaned, refurbished / serviced and thoroughly tested this SONY TC-K850ES cassette tape deck.
It does have a few 'battle scars' (see above photos), but will make up for it in performance, again check the recording results, and the 1kHz = 1kHz speed!
If I didn't already have 'a sufficient number' of cassette decks in my collection, this one wouldn't be leaving, especially after experimenting with the 'Bias and Record Level' controls.
Great for transferring your no NR or Dolby B / C NR / HX-PRO encoded tape collection to CD, Hard-drive or MP3, or BETTER YET, 'making your own tapes' with HX-PRO. Built very well! Looks like new, works and sounds great.
Comes with an 'e-copy' / pdf of the Sony TC-K850ES owners manual and the service manual if purchaser desires. Measures 18.25" wide (w/ wood panels installed) x 13.5" deep x 5.2" tall and weighs 16 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty.
SONY TC-K850ES
Cond. 8
(due only to creases on top panel and dings in installed 'originally optional' wood panels. The deck looks much better and way more 'striking' in 'real life' than in the 'washed out photos'. It's hard to accurately depict 'true black'.)

Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and 'Certified' this unit which involves complete removal and partial disassembly of the entire transport, cleaning inside and out, DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below.

Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further restoration work).

Head rotating gear inspected with a jewelers loop prior to starting any restoration work, and found to be 'hairline' crack free.

All 'reel drive' tires reconditioned for years of trouble-free service.

All new internal Drive and Counter belts replaced for years of trouble-free service.

Rubber pinch roller has been reconditioned

Capstan burnished

Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized as well as the entire transport.

Head alignments and azimuth at both 1kHz and 10kHz adjusted for BOTH directions for 'peak performance' with O-Scope

All internal pots, switches and controls cleaned and tested for noise-free function.

Both spindles in perfect alignment.

Speed adjusted to 100% accuracy BOTH directions, with 1kHz factory calibration tape (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 1Hz)

FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive.

Eject door operates smoothly.

ALL Tape Counter Functions tested

Dolby B & C NR circuits / function tested

'Memory / Zero Return' function tested

Cosmetics are LIKE NEW!

Plays perfectly and after adjustment, records very well at -1dB! on about any formulation of tape. We did 'test recordings' of Pink Noise and 'ddd' CD's on 6 tapes; Sony Normal Bias, Fuji Normal Bias, TDK Normal Bias, Maxell Normal Bias, TDK 'SA' High Bias, and Maxell 'XL-II' High Bias. We found that they all performed VERY well on this particular deck. We did however find that the deck likes to record at about -10dB on the meters, for 'smoother saturation' of tape. Again, we really didn't have a favorite, plus the deck has adjustable Bias (although we left it 'centered' for our tests).
Total technician time to restore 8+ HOURS!

We did 'test recordings' of Pink Noise and 'ddd' CD's on 6 tapes; Sony Normal Bias, Fuji Normal Bias, TDK Normal Bias, Maxell Normal Bias, TDK 'SA' High Bias, and Maxell 'XL-II' High Bias. We found that they all performed VERY well on this particular deck (although the Fuji DR-1 definitely came up 'last'). The Sony HF 'Normal Bias' did very well with both PN and ddd CD at -.5dB w/ no NR. It exhibited good saturation capabilities with minimal 'high end' loss. It recorded at -6dB w/ dbx engaged, but that was from a starting point of more than +10dB on the meters. Dolby B was -2 and C was -2. Maxell UDXL-II was at -1.5dB with PN, but with ddd CD and no NR it exhibited great recording at -1.0dB with GREAT high end retention. dbx was at -6dB down, but again, that was from a ++10dB starting point. Bottom line is it makes GREAT recordings.

Our technician has completely and EXTENSIVELY gone through and 'Certified' this unit which involves complete removal and disassembly of the transport (not an easy task on this deck), cleaning inside and out, DISASSEMBLING, cleaning and re-lubricating all internal mechanisms and the balance of efforts listed below.

Heads inspected for excessive wear (obviously we do this 'early on' as 'excessive' wear will usually negate any further restoration work).

Head rotating gear inspected with a jewelers loop prior to starting any restoration work, and found to be 'hairline' crack free.

'reel drive' tire reconditioned for years of trouble-free service.

All new internal Drive and Counter belts replaced for years of trouble-free service. (this was especially important to eliminate any audible WOW and Flutter)

FF, REW, & Play transport functions all test perfectly and controls tested for 'positive / accurate' responsive.

Eject door operates smoothly.

Tape Counter Function tested

Dolby B & C NR circuits / function tested

'Memory / Zero Return' function tested

Heads are in great condition

Internal playback levels adjusted for even playback w/ alignment tape, Oscilloscope, and mVAC meter

Internal Record amplifier channels adjusted for 'even output'

Meters adjusted to within 1.5dB with symmetric input.

Pinch roller and heads all in GREAT condition!!!

Both level meters playback even.

Speed adjusted to 100% accuracy BOTH directions, with 1kHz factory calibration tape (meaning 1kHz calibration tape plays back at 1000Hz +/- 1Hz) (VERY difficult to do on this deck by the way)

Cosmetically, it's definitely not going to "win any beauty contests" (see above 'horizontal' photo collage), but it makes up for it in performance.

Plays perfectly and after adjustment, records AMAZINGLY well at -1dB! on Maxell UDXL-II tapes and -.5dB on Maxell UR / Normal Bias tapes (but 'top end' will not be as good as on CrO2). (Following the extensive restoration, we did 'test recordings' of a 'ddd' CD on 6 tapes; Sony HF Normal Bias -3dB, Fuji Normal Bias -2.5dB, TDK Normal Bias -1.5dB, Maxell Normal Bias, TDK 'SA' High Bias -2dB (didn't saturate as well as the Maxell UDXL-II), and Maxell 'XL-II' High Bias. We found that for Normal and High Bias, of those tapes tested, both "Maxells" performed well on this particular deck. The Maxell's did however much 'outshine' the TDK's for being able to 'over saturate' on the levels. While doing the test recording's, it became apparent that the recorded sound was fairly remarkable.
Total technician time to restore 16.5 HOURS!

is known for 'Cassette Decks', but they were expensive when new, so we don't see a lot floating around on the secondary market, so when we do, it's always a treat. Here's a NAK CR-3A, "3-Head" deck 'made for recording'! And following all of the above listed service work, it's READY TO GO!

Nakamichi CR-3A Features:

- 3-Heads for better record capability
- Dual Capstan 'Closed Loop' transport
- 'Pressure Pad Lifter' (Most Nakamichi tape decks 'lift' the tape away from the 'pressure pad' that's 'built-in' to cassette tape shells, so that the deck can 'manage' the entire tape path.

- IC Logic, 'Silent Mechanism' Tape Transport controls
- 2 Motor Transport
- Dolby B & C Noise Reduction

- Tape type selector for Normal / Chrome & Metal tapes
- Fine Bias Tuning (really becomes useful coupled with the "3-head" design for 'fine tuning' recordings around different tape types)
- 2-Position Tape Equalization to optimize playback of different tape types

- Auto-Slack mechanism (takes up slack in tape upon closing the cassette well door)
- 'One Touch' Rec/Pause

- Record Mute
- Built-in MPX filter for killing the 19kHz pilot tone in FM transmissions
- Variable Output Level control (one of the most important features on a deck in our opinion)

- Dual, LED level meters
- Memory tied to the counter
- Front-mounted 1/4" stereo headphone jack
- Timer option for Play or Record start
- System' remote port for tying in with other, compatible Nakamichi components

Again, as mentioned above, our tech has gone through it completely cleaning all parts, controls and tape mechanism. We also checked, cleaned, reconditioned and / or replaced rubber components. We completely de-magnetized the heads and transport. Capstan motor speed adjusted to exact spec! Tape speed re-adjusted to 100% accuracy, ie; 1 kHz = 1 kHz! And with it's service work completed the deck records incredibly well and plays back utilizing TDK SA tapes at 0dB down! Other than the minor 'ding' mentioned earlier, the deck looks near NEW and sounds great! Great for transferring your tape collection to CD, Hard-drive or MP3. Plays and Records extremely well. Very clean deck and usable deck! Includes a pdf / e-copy download of the Nakamichi CR-3A owners / users / instruction manual. Measures 17" w X 10.5" d X 4" h and unpacked weight is 13lbs. Comes with our 90 day limited warranty.

for sale
Pre-Recorded, 1/4" X 7" (18cm), Realistic / Radio Shack, 'CONCERTape', 1800 ft reel to reel tape.
Great tape for general purpose recording.

These are 1800' / 548.6 meters and 1.0 MIL thick, and include individual, boxes with a plastic reel. More than enough length for most LP's at 7.5ips (fast, consumer speed) for 90 minutes combined sides (180 minutes at 3.75ips). According to an original catalog, "1-Mil base of heavy-duty Polyester resists breaking and stretching while giving you extra-wide response.""   Will work on any 'head format', meaning 'quarter track', 'half-track', 'full-track', '4-track / '8-track' / 'multi-track', stereo or mono tape recorders / decks. Reels are 'light gray' plastic. Leaderless tape.
We have actually found that 'Normal' bias tape works best on the older decks such as the pre 1980 Akai's, Concertone's, Craigs, Crowns, Grundigs, Kenwoods, Pioneers, Realistics, Sansui's, Sony TC's, Tandbergs, Teacs, Telefunkens, etc. We have gotten some fine recordings using this tape, and due to the extreme 'retention' of high bias tape some times it is difficult to erase. These always seem to erase fine.

Most are at least 1800 feet and some with leaders intact and may or may not include individual box (often do). Most have been used and will have recordings on them.
Boxes and / or reels may have extraneous labels and / or marking on them. Reels may have blemishes / nicotine staining / dust etc. You will need to come up with your own labels as even if they are in the box, they likely aren't "sticky" anymore. Due to unpredictability of stocks we cannot "cherry pick" brands so they are always assorted. Plastic reels may be clear or black. Will work on any 'head format', meaning 'quarter track', 'half-track', 'full-track', '4-track / '8-track' / 'multi-track', stereo or mono tape recorders / decks. Use a bulk eraser or will simply erase when new recordings are made on your deck (assuming your 'erase' is functioning).

HEY, WHY ALL THE 'X'd' OUT / OMITTED SPECS AND TEXT?

Yes, we know, EVERYTHING (at least all the receivers) are SOLD OUT
currently.
We will be posting more in the future.
We are currently focusing resources on expanding our receiver 'Parts Department' AND 'refurbished' stereo receivers sell faster than we can get them refurbished, and it's a slow process getting them ready.
