A note about our Reel-to-Reel tape. As far as we can tell, there is no NEW tape being made, and rarely is NOS tape available. Most of our tapes have already been recorded on. Some may include boxes and leaders intact, and some may not. May or may not have usable labels. Boxes and / or reels may have extraneous labels and / or marking on them. We try and accurately note when they do, but neither are ever guaranteed as it's a tedious task inventorying those aspects on each tape.

An interesting note found on the web @ http://tascamforums.com/index.php?showtopic=2964&mode=linearplus
"...Tom Scholz & Boston used Scotch 226 or die for tracks, 996 for mastering...Scotch 966/986 was an "improvement" on 226, but Scholz didn't like it so he stocked up on 226 before it was discontinued, and still uses it today.
A lot of the signature sounds that groups were identified with came form using various tapes on machines tuned for Ampex 456. The key was the way the other tapes sounded on a deck tweaked for 456. Tweaking the machine for another tape would change and maybe ruin the sound. The original Boston sound was best using Scotch 226 on a machine set for Ampex 456 tape."

Pre-Recorded 1/4" X 7", Normal Bias Reel-to-Reel tape. "Grab-bag" assortment of brands may include Ampex, BASF, Irish, Maxell, Realistic, Scotch / 3M, Sony, Soundcraft, TDK and others.
We have actually found that 'Normal' bias tape works best on the older decks such as the pre 1980 Akai's, Sony TC's, Teacs, Tandbergs, Pioneers, Kenwoods, Sansui's, Realistics, Crowns, etc. We have gotten some fine recordings using this tape, and due to the extreme 'retention' of high bias tape some times it is difficult to erase. These always seem to erase fine.
 Most are at least 1800 feet and some with leaders intact and usually include individual box. Most have been used and will have recordings on them. You will need to come up with your own labels as even if they are in the box, they likely aren't "sticky" anymore. Due to unpredictability of stocks we cannot "cherry pick" brands so they are always assorted. Plastic reels may be clear or black.

Used 7", HIGH Bias / CHROME Reel-to-Reel tape. "Grab-bag" assortment of brands may include Ampex, BASF, Irish, Maxell, Realistic, Scotch / 3M, Sony, Soundcraft, TDK and others. Most at least 1800 feet and some with leaders intact. Most include individual box. Most have been used and will have recordings on them. You will need to come up with your own labels as even if they are in the box, they likely aren't "sticky" anymore. Due to unpredictability of stocks we cannot "cherry pick" brands so they are always assorted. Plastic reels may be clear or black.
