A note about our Reel-to-Reel tape. Most of our tapes have already been recorded on. Some may include boxes and leaders intact, and some may not. May or may not have usable labels. We try and accurately note when they do, but neither are ever guaranteed as it's a tedious task inventorying those aspects on each tape.

Originally marketed "Voice Quality Recording". This is actually a good tape to use with some of the older (read pre-1970) reel decks such as the Teac 4010, Ampex 800, 1000 & 2000, the early Roberts and Akai decks, Webcor decks an many others from the 1950's and 1960's. 1.5 mil non-backcoated "red oxide" voice-grade audio tape (185 nW/m). Great tape for 'later model' Reel to Reel tape recorders as it's 'high bias' tape. Scotch 203-18 'Dynarange', High-Bias magnetic tape. These always seem to erase fine as well.
Introduced in '62 with a black polyester base. Total thickness 1.43 mils, no back coating. Magnetic properties, Remanence 0.64, Coercivity 315, Retentivity 790.
 Choice of Professionals. Sensitive-lets you use slower speeds without fidelity loss. 15% longer life and low 'rub off'. Superior 'Signal to Noise' characteristics. Scotch 203 tape was one of the standard tapes of 'Motown' era recordings, and commonly used in the 'broadcast' industry. These are 1800' / 540 meters Scotch 203 reel tapes, and are the 'later' version 203 with leaders (green) and include individual, 'upgraded' plastic box instead of the cardboard boxes on the original generation. These also have silver / Mylar / Tinsel 'Auto-Reverse sensing' tape installed on the leaders (as the 'leader to tape' splices are with '30+ year old' adhesive tape, some of them may need to be replaced to be serviceable). Most have likely been used and will have recordings on them. Boxes and / or reels may have extraneous labels and / or marking on them. These are great for 'home recording' use, or for 'project studio' tracks. Will work on any 'head format', meaning 'quarter track', 'half-track', 'full-track', '4-track / '8-track' / 'multi-track', stereo or mono tape recorders / decks.  Reels are 'clear' plastic. We have actually found that 'Normal' bias tape works best on the older decks such as the pre 1980 Akai's, Craigs, Crowns, Grundigs, Kenwoods, Pioneers, Realistics, Sansui's, Sony TC's, Tandbergs, Teacs, Telefunkens, etc. We have gotten some fine recordings using this tape, and due to the extreme 'retention' of high bias tape some times it is difficult to erase. These always seem to erase fine.
 Most are at least 1800 feet and some with leaders intact and may or may not include individual box. Most have been used and will have recordings on them. Boxes and / or reels may have extraneous labels and / or marking on them. You will need to come up with your own labels as even if they are in the box, they likely aren't "sticky" anymore. Due to unpredictability of stocks we cannot "cherry pick" brands so they are always assorted. Plastic reels may be clear or black. Will work on any 'head format', meaning 'quarter track', 'half-track', 'full-track', '4-track / '8-track' / 'multi-track', stereo or mono tape recorders / decks. "...Tom Scholz & Boston used Scotch 226 or die for tracks, 996 for mastering...Scotch 966/986 was an "improvement" on 226, but Scholz didn't like it so he stocked up on 226 before it was discontinued, and still uses it today.
A lot of the signature sounds that groups were identified with came form using various tapes on machines tuned for Ampex 456. The key was the way the other tapes sounded on a deck tweaked for 456. Tweaking the machine for another tape would change and maybe ruin the sound. The original Boston sound was best using Scotch 226 on a machine set for Ampex 456 tape."
