Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. We have completely tested all drivers. Woofers were removed and reinstalled into cabinet with ‘added’ gasketing material under their frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies. Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Then came our standard, 'abusive' test recordings. These speakers are ready to go!

We auditioned this pair well. Following the above mentioned 'barrage', our demo cuts ran the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.

I personally own the other version of these called the Altec 846A or 'Valencia' Loud Speakers. There were actually 3 ....

Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. These Flamenco's are in great shape, dating from 1972 and have been completely checked by our speaker technician.
We have completely disassembled them further, testing all drivers independently, then re-assembled and tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-5kHz.....

The real wood, dark Walnut veneer cabinets in great shape, as are the original brown, 'Spanish-Mediterranean' style grills. Grill frames perfect with no broken or repaired parts. The Walnut wood veneer cabinets have just had a fresh coat of lemon oil rubbed in to bring out their original luster. Again, this is the same....

Cabinets measure 28" H x 27.5" W x 19.5" D and weighs a hefty 108 lbs each (due to their huge size once packed, the P,S & I on these to much of the lower 48 states of the US would run approx $425-450.  Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these.
Both woofers were sourced to be the correct AlNiCo magnet versions, with the 'damping ring' (as the original pair had too many issues we repeatedly found with our AF Gen Sweep processes). The original surrounds on AR-3a woofers were typically 'distorted', so we sent these to our local, 'been in business 40 years' speaker shop for fresh surrounds    . The 'spiders' were also slightly 'deformed' (we didn't notice this as it is a rare condition on most speakers, was hard to see, but would show up at 3 different frequencies on an AF generator sweep, but most noticeable centered at 80Hz), so he 'painstakingly' replaced them, while retaining the original VC's and Cones (retaining the original Voice Coils and Cones made the process logarithmically more difficult). We also coated the Neoprene donuts w/ 'speaker wet-look' to act as a 'binder' and to improve their appearance   . Due to a 5+ dB difference we discovered between the original midranges with them removed for 'pink noise / bench' testing, we then sourced a 'matched pair' of slightly later units. While one of the tweeters has a past repair to it (hole inserted to remove dimples), it is original, and works flawlessly, and both test evenly w/ pink noise. We have completely tested all drivers. All drivers were removed and tested individually. Attenuators removed and 'burnished' for 'intermittent-free' performance   . Isolation gasketing / sealant material was added to all driver mounting flanges, prior to re-installation to reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies and to 'Re-seal the Spring' effect of the AR-3a. Felt feet were installed to the bottom plates. Cosmetically, the grills were cleaned, and the original 'hot glue attachment' replaced with Velcro. We also added a 'pull tab' to facilitate removal. Grill frames intact with NO cracks or breaks. Unfortunately these speakers were originally shipped by a fleeeeeeeebeae seller, by their purchaser for us to evaluate / refurb, but the fleeeeeeba seller did not follow / listen to our 'EXTENSIVE', but easy to follow packing instructions, so the cabinets acquired some 'corner dings'    . Our tech was able to make the 'real wood' Walnut veneer cabinets 'presentable' and they just had a fresh coat of 'Restore-a-Finish', then 'Feed-n-Wax', then buffed. (See above photos for details of cosmetic issues).
Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 10Hz-20kHz.
Then came our standard, 'issue exposing' and on some levels, 'abusive' test recordings. These speakers are ready to go!
 We auditioned this pair extensively and 'THEY DELIVERED' as expected, but additionally adding the 'gasketing' really 'tightened' up the cabinets and cleaned up the bass response.

These AR-3a's are a speaker that you can definitely loose...

 Our demo cuts included the following; Dire Straits' "So Far Away" from their album 'Brothers in Arms' album (very 'natural' sounding w/ great detail (as it should be)),
Donald Fagens, "I.G.Y." from the album "Night Fly" (solid and snappy reproduction),
'24K Gold Edition of Jennifer Waren's "Famous Blue Raincoat' (upright bass and sax open, up-front and natural, with a great 3-D soundstage),
TLC's "Scrub" from their album 'Fan Mail' (did 'sub-bass' note @ 1'25" & 1'35" WELL),
Allison Kraus and Union Station's "Baby, Now That I've Found You" (this especially opens up with a Carver 'Sonic Holography' unit on this album), Cowboy Junkies ‘Sweet Jane’ (Fabulous. Natural and open),
Don Williams' DDD version of 'Country Boy' was perfectly ‘up-front’ in the soundstage,
Calvin Hampton's, "The Wedding March" from "Digital Pipes, The Splendor of the Organ", a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ (delivered a 'huge wall of sound'), Trapt’s “Headstrong” (was ‘solid’),
Most of the cuts from Michael Jacksons' 'Number Ones' such as "Bad" "Beat It", and "Smooth Criminal", (great up to 'mid-upper' volumes, then be careful as this recording is a bit much for a speaker of this stature), Nickel Creeks’ “When in Rome” was fabulous all around!,
Van Halens' cut "Drop Dead Legs" from the CD "1984", Very 'Solid' and mids come through well,  
John Patitucci's "Zarogoza" was 'massive with all parts distinct and the same can be said for Sheffield Labs' "Escape Clause", Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia’s "Mediterranean Sundance / Rio Ancho" (Very big and 'engaging'’).
Other notes; Distantly recorded Orchestral Strings were easily picked out and busy crescendo’s kept up with. Speakers did not fall apart on huge ‘orchestra hits’, except at the most elevated volumes. Large, ‘brash’ choir pieces impressive. Brass ensemble and ‘Marching Band’ recordings were BIG, with little to no ‘fatigue’ at upper volumes and power levels. 'Saint Patricks Cathedral Choir' (was very 'realistic'), and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.

This particular pair is in great 'electro / mechanical' condition, and their cosmetics are certainly 'presentable' following their restoration.
 
Again, as stated earlier these speakers have been completely 'Certified'. Very solidly built Real Walnut wood veneer cabinets. Each measures 25" h x 11.5" deep x 14" wide and weighs a HEAVY 53 lbs.  Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. We have just installed fresh, new foam surrounds on the woofers for trouble-free service. We also added gasket material under the drivers to improve seal and reduce vibrations / sonic anomalies. We completely tested them including sweeping them with PN 20-20k and an audio generator looking for any acoustical anomalies or extraneous noises or sounds. Cabinets are REAL Walnut wood veneer and are in fabulous condition. Just had a fresh coat of 'Feed-n-Wax' and look near new. The original grills and grill cloth also in GREAT condition.....

One of the rarer of the classic Fisher 'XP' line models. We've had lots of the Fisher XP-7's and XP-9's, and if memory serves me, maybe a pair of XP-10's years ago, but never any this LARGE! I was actually not really looking forward to auditioning this pair of speakers as I expected them to perform like their 'smaller' versions, only 'bigger'. Wow, was I wrong. These are one of the best 'mid-fi' speakers I've heard in a long time. Huge "Wall-of-Sound" (they should have, given the two, 12" woofers, and huge cabinet size, however many 'large', 'multi-woofer' speakers don't actually deliver) fabulous presence, very 'open' and three-dimensional, and good attention to 'sonic detail'. Incredible power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" better MUCH than your average speaker. Not simply referring to their wattage rating, but just the way they perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them with our test Hafler 500 watt power amplifier (that amp is actually capable of just south of 500 watts! per channel)  Among the top performers we have auditioned over the years.

FISHER XP-16 ORIGINAL SPECIFICATIONS / SPECS:

Frequency Response: 2xxxHz +- 3dB
Nominal Impedance: 8Ω
Cross-over frequencies: at xxxHz, xxkHz & xkHz
Recommended Power rating: xx Watts RMS / 120 Watts 'Music Power'

Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. He completely removed and tested all drivers. He replaced the surrounds, with fresh foam on all four (4), 12" woofers. He removed the 'inhibiting' black paint form the Silver colored, 'Mylar' tweeter domes (this was added to make the 'shiny' silver domes, not be visible thru the speaker grill cloth, but that was at the cost of sonics). Only other 'cosmetic' issue to mention is that sometime in their past, one of the input sections / crossover section was 'surgically removed' from the cabinet, and then re-installed. Why, I have no idea, but they did an adequate job of restoring it back in place and it's doesn't show up an an anomaly with our 'audio sweep' tests    . We then added tweeter protection (shock absorbers) to each of the two tweeters in each cabinet, to add 'peace of mind' the next time 'you're stand'in on them' with volume. He 're-flowed' the input post solder joints to eliminate any potential future issues. We also added 'hot glue' to most of the crossover components to eliminate any future vibrations / rattles / mechanical issues (we do this on many speakers, if it wasn't already done at the factory).
Next, as always they were tested with both recorded material, PN 20Hz-20kHz and swept them with our AF generator from 1Hz-3kHz. Then came our standard, 'abusive' test recordings.
Cosmetically, the grills were cleaned as well as the cabinets 'real wood' Walnut veneer. The cabs and grills are in great shape with only minor / typical scuffs / dings (hey a speaker this big and heavy is not likely going to avoid them over a 45 year time period). These speakers are ready to go!
Following the above mentioned 'barrage', We auditioned this pair extensively and were VERY surprised at their performance.
I spent an inordinate amount of time auditioning these speakers. I tried about every genre of music, including most of the selections listed on our 'Demo Cuts' page but here are some notes I made on their post restoration 'check sheet'; Dire Straits' "So Far Away" from their album 'Brothers in Arms', Donald Fagens, "I.G.Y." from the album "Night Fly" "Was as near perfect as any speaker could do. Good power and 'snap', great balance, and fine WITHOUT an EQ!", '24K Gold Edition of Jennifer Waren's "Famous Blue Raincoat', TLC's "Scrub" from their album 'Fan Mail', did 'sub-bass' note @ 1'25" & 1'35" SO SOLIDLY & PROMINENTLY THAT IT SHOOK OUR CONCRETE FLOOR, Allison Kraus and Union Station's Baby, Now That I've Found You" '"was very natural and open", NickelBacks 'Never Again' 'damn near, peeled paint off the wall (that cut also sounded great w/ Sonic Holography engaged)', Cowboy Junkies version of "Sweet Jane" ,"had a HUGE sound stage", Don Williams' DDD version of 'Country Boy' 'Was Monstorous', Calvin Hampton's, "The Wedding March" from "Digital Pipes, The Splendor of the Organ" a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ, (w/ EQ and Sonic Holography was HUGE!!!), and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
Very good power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" WAY better than your average speaker. The real Walnut wood, veneer cabinets are great shape, as are the original, 'inset' grills (frames and cloth). Grill frames perfect with not broken or repaired parts. Both woofer surrounds just replaced with new foam for years of trouble-free service. Great speakers for most anyone with plenty of floor space.

Very unusually designed Harman Kardon, stereo speakers. 360 degree dispersion, round, 2-way design. While these are fairly "cosmetically challenged", they do perform Ok. These are not "loud" speakers and are designed for fairly low wattage ranges. Best for back ground use or for their appearances.


Again, these are fairly cosmetically challenged. They were apparently set too close to a heater, which slightly warped a side area of one of the cabinets and blistered the wood grain vinyl wrapping. Also, the vinyl wrapping on the tops have shrunk a bit, so there's about .25" uncovered around the top. We have completely disassembled these speakers (a very difficult task) cleaned all and replaced the internal crossover caps with fresh ones. Again, these speakers are for lower volumes and power ratings. Not a speaker that should be purchased for louder volumes. Each measures 17" x 12" and weighs 16 lbs unpacked.

Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. Both woofers just had new foam installed for trouble-free service. We also replaced the tweeters with fresh units. Prior to re-installing the drivers, we added gasketing material to eliminate acoustic anomalies and to seal driver mounting. Following that, we completely tested them with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator from 20-5,000 Hz and feeding them with the output from our Hafler P-225 Pro Power Amp. We then further auditioned them (Happily) with a myriad of our difficult to reproduce 'test' CD's. Cabinets solid and look decent with only minor cosmetic wear. Original grills intact, with a few, minor snags to the knit cloth......

Very nice condition 1968 date coded Jensen 3-way, 4-driver speaker systems. One of the classics from the early days of Hi-Fi, after most gear had "found it's legs". If you like "vintage sound" with lots of wood these could be the speaker for  you.

These are nice "vintage" sounding speakers with good bass response and not as much midrange "honk" as most "vintage" sounding speakers. With the exception of missing the small front logos and very minor normal wear the speakers are in great shape. Very solidly built with Real Walnut wood veneer grill fascias.  The main cabinets are Walnut finish wood grain vinyl wrap. Each grill fascia just had a fresh coat of lemon oil. The original speaker grill cloth is also in great shape.  We have completely tested them including sweeping them with an audio generator looking for any acoustical anomalies or extraneous noises or sounds. They work and look great! Each measures " 23.75" high x 13.5" wide x 11.5" deep and weighs 35 lbs unpacked. KEF 105.4's, are easily contenders for some of the best speakers we've had for overall balance, volume / output and power handling capabilities. These have most everything I look for in a home audio speaker such as 'balance', detail, power handling, accuracy, punch and 'largeness of sound'. HUGE in both size and SONICS! Great for most genres of music. 3-Way / 4-Driver, pseudo 'acoustic suspension' cabinet design (actually what they KEF calls "Nuevo Bass Loading Technique". Just a great 'all-around' speaker for home audio listening or recording ‘studio monitor’ use. Just as happy with a medium-small size amp as they are with amps of larger size. A very interesting feature of these speakers is a 'sighting' lens / LED arrangement that allows you to rotate / tilt the Midrange / Tweeter units on either X or Y axis to perfectly 'aim' them at a 'critical' listening area.
 Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. Speakers were entirely disassembled. Crossover components and circuit boards were 'damped' to 'proactively' reduce any possible 'sympathetic' component vibrations. He also 're-attached' the 'anti-resonance' pads in the upper driver housings. He also installed fresh felt bumpers under the mid / high housings. Our tech has completely tested all drivers, then re-assembled with their original and adequate gasketing material under all driver frames to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies, and tested with recorded material, PN and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Following, of course our normal barrage of 'pink noise' and an AF sweep from 3k down to 20Hz, our demo cuts ran the gamut from Dire Straits, 'Brothers in Arms', TLC 'Fan Mail', Allison Kraus and Union Station, Nickelback, a digital recording of a cathedral pipe organ, our 'Usher Speaker' demo CD (no not that Usher), 'Friday Night in San Francisco', with Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia, Nickel Creek's, "When in Rome" from the CD, "Why Should the Fire Die" and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
Incredible power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" MUCH better than your average speaker. Not simply referring to their wattage rating, but just the way they perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler 225 watt power amp.
Cabinets cleaned, then had a coat of Howards 'Restore-A-Finish' and 'Feed-n-Wax' rubbed into the 'real' teak wood veneer and are in great shape. Grills including grill frames and cloth in great condition as well with only very minor wear. All 8 original swivel castors in fine shape. Overall, the speakers look and perform great!

Again, we have completely tested all drivers at individually applicable frequencies with a sweep generator looking for any irregular anomalies in either the drivers or cabinet structure integrity. Very nice looking REAL 'Teak' wood, veneer cabinets. Cabinets and veneer overall in excellent shape and look great (wood under grills darker, than exposed wood due to age of finish and exposure to ambient light). Both grill frames and their cloth in fine shape with no breaks or tears.
These have most everything we look for in a home audio speaker such as 'balance', detail, power handling, accuracy, punch and 'largeness of sound'. Bass response was 'deeper' than about 70% of the speakers we audition, based on the ability to reproduce one of our very difficult 'test cuts'. They are able to handle "power" MUCH better than your average speaker. Not simply referring to their wattage rating, but just the way they perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler power amp.
Also, again, these look great having the above mentioned work and are ready to go!

First pair of 'HD's we've had...ever! It's hard to expand on what's already been written out there about these speakers. Most fans of these know some version of the Marantz 'HD...

 Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. Speakers were entirely disassembled. Upon initial inspection we found one of the woofers had an open voice coil. We were able to source an original Marantz HD-660 woofer after 18 months of searching. Fresh, new foam was installed on both (yes, it was done correctly by removing the dust-caps, shimming the voice coils, and re-installing the original dust caps!). New foam was sourced, shaped and installed on the 'Vari-Q' plugs. We also added fiber washers to the original design of the 'Vari-Q' adjusting members to make them much more 'usable'. Crossover components and internal circuit boards were inspected for any possible 'sympathetic' component vibrations. Attenuators cleaned with De-Ox-Id for cleaner performance. Our tech completely tested all drivers, then re-assembled with new and additional gasket material under all driver frames (and between the woofer frame and the beauty ring) to further reduce any possibilities of vibration or acoustic anomalies, and tested with both recorded material, PN and swept them with our AF generator from 20-3kHz. Following, of course our normal barrage of 'pink noise' and an AF sweep from 3k down to 20Hz, our demo cuts ran the gamut from; TL.....

... and a few others, all digitally recorded and some 'DDD'.
We auditioned them with the 'Vari-Q' plugs in and out. As expected the bass was tighter and had less output with the plugs in, and was more prevalent and deeper with them out. Impressive power handling characteristics. They are able to handle "power" better MUCH than your average speaker. Not simply referring to their wattage rating, but just the way they perform at higher power / volume levels without "falling apart" sonically. We 'stood' on them HARD with our test Hafler 500 watt power amp.
Original grill frames intact with no breaks or missing grill pins, original brown knit cloth in great shape with only very minor snags and both Marantz logos intact. Cabinets cleaned, then had a coat of Lemon Oil rubbed into the 'real' Walnut wood veneer and are in decent shape with a few minor 'battle scars' (see above photos). These speakers Perform, Sound and Look great!

Refurbished and Tested for all frequencies with a sweep generator looking for any irregular anomalies in either the drivers or cabinet structure integrity. Again, these are the first pair of these we had in 17-18 years of having the web site. Prior to that, going back to the early 1980's I never had any come in on trade in any of the stores I worked at. If you have been looking for a pair, here's a pair that while they do have a few minor cosmetic issues, following our speaker tech's work, will likely be the best performing pair you will encounter (if you encounter any at all). One of the most famous Mission Models. The Mission 700, 2-way stereo speaker / monitor. Great "British" sound. These are the 1st version of the 700's with the foam grill.
Very accurate detailed sound. Would be great as home audio speakers or as project studio monitors.
Our speaker tech has completely gone through and 'Certified' these. We have completely tested them with both recorded material, PN 20-20k and swept them with our AF generator.

One "Mission" logo is missing...

Great performing Miller & Kreissel MX-90, powered, dual 12" subwoofer...

 ü  Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü  Following ext / int visual inspection entire unit was cleaned inside and out.

ü  Both drivers removed and individually 'swept' with an AF generator to ensure sonic condition.

ü  Plate amplifier removed and inspected for any 'loose parts' (hey it's a subwoofer, and they do some 'vibrate'in'!).

ü  Level pot and 'roll-off' pot cleaned for static free performance.

ü  Plate-amp re-installed with gasketing material to completely seal edges and reduce any possibility of vibration (actually no sealant used in original build.?.).

ü  Both 'speaker level' and 'RCA' inputs and 'speaker pass thru' outputs tested.

ü  Entire unit swept with an AF generator from 10Hz to 1500Hz, looking for extraneous vibrations or acoustic anomalies.

ü  All functions tested for perfect operation.

ü  No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent!

Great performing M&K, MX-90 powered subwoofer. Other than some flaking / chipping of the original black satin finish (see above photos), the unit is in good cosmetic shape.

Woofer surrounds in fine shape with many years left before maintenance. We will include a set of our 'Sorbothane' 'Iso-pods' for use if the purchaser so desires (as they originally come with 'hard, nylon' feet, which will likely be a source of vibration if used on a 'hard floor'). Again, VERY '.....!!! Includes an ‘e-copy’, pdf download of the M&K / Miller & Kreissel owners / users manual to the purchaser. Measures 23" tall x 15.25" wide x 19.75" deep and weighs a HEAVY 70 lbs unpacked. Comes with our 30 day limited warranty (excluding problems due to under / over powering).
