Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.
Everything was cleaned inside and out including cleaning inside and out including all contacts, switches and controls. Output transistors removed and fresh heat sink compound applied. As always, Bias current and DC offset checked for tolerable limits and adjusted when necessary and possible. We also aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD FM TUNER! FM reception incredible, PUNCHY and IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!! All meter and dial lamps replaced for trouble-free service. All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with ""Loudness"" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours.

On our test bench, both this unit's amplifiers produced peak power of 12 volts per channel @ 8 ohms for 18 watts and 10 volts @ 4 ohms for 25 watts per channel via discrete outputs with 1 kHz input. (4x Toshiba 2SC789). AC Idle current at .2A, DC offset output <.54mvDC either channel. Floor noise at 2.0mVAC either channel.

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.
Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and contacts.
- Internal fuses checked for correct value / function and replaced where necessary.
- Controls tightened to chassis.
-
Main circuit board repaired and damaged resistors replaced.
-
Tuner MPX IC replaced.
- All output transistors removed and individually tested. Fresh heat sink compound used of course.
-
Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels.
-
All dial, meter and stereo indicator lamps were replaced.
- We also aligned the tuner front-end, FM MPX and dial alignment on both AM & FM bands for optimum performance as older tuner components will have 'drifted' over the years.
INCREDIBLE TUNER! AM reception WAY above average, FM reception incredible, PUNCHY and MUSICAL and IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!!
- Only cosmetic issues with this unit are minor scuffing on the bonnet and minor scratches on the face near the tuning knob) and a slight ‘off-center’ to the tuning knob when ‘spun’ (see photos above).

- Following above procedures, all functions tested for perfect operation and unit was cosmetically detailed inside and out.

- All inputs tested and both sides produce clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions tested for perfect operation.

- Following restoration procedures, the unit was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours

Wonderful condition, late 70's silver face receiver from Kenwood. Great performance for a 'mid-sized' 2-Channel audio system. This is an INCREDIBLEY ‘Musical’ sounding receiver. The tone / pre-amp section very transparent and ‘glassy’ sounding, even with only the FM tuner as a source! Nice looking classic brushed aluminum face and knobs with only minor scuffs.

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü  We have completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally.

ü 'Gray Box' power switch is functioning perfectly with no arc'ing or contact issues.

ü Internal fuses checked for continuity and correct values. No issues found, fortunately. We don't like seeing incorrect fuses having been installed in a unit as that could mean it had prior issues, or if a fuse value was 'increased' it could have allowed too much current through an 'ailing' circuit causing un-due / un-necessary damage.

ü Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet

ü Originally loose 'Power / Speaker Selector' and 'Input Selector' controls found to be due to disintegrated 'nylon / plastic' 'Castle nuts'. We replaced them with 'metal castle nuts' and now hold shafts and face plate solidly.

ü Tuner string checked for any fraying then re-tensioned to increase traction & relieve flywheel binding and re-centered pointer to correct dial position.

ü  We aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER! AM seems to be an 'afterthought' on many stereo receivers and component tuners. The AM is WAY above average for a 'stereo receiver' on this Kenwood KR-4070.

ü All dial, indicator & meter lamps 'proactively' replaced (and tinted blue) (even though originals were working)

ü Stereo indicator lamp replaced (even though original was working)

ü We also checked the heat sink compound which should be good for another 30 years.

ü All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 Ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine.
Total restoration time investment 7 hours.

ü Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours into a 4 Ohm load.

On our test bench, each internal amplifier of this particular unit, #...2407, produced peak power of 20 Volts per channel for 50 Watts per channel @ 8 Ohm and 17.5 Volts @ 4 Ohm for 76 Watts per channel via discrete output devices at 1khz. (2X NEC 2SD588 & 2X NEC 2SB618). AC Idle current at .3A, & floor noise <0.1 mVAC and Bias adjusted across emitter resistors. DC offset checked for excessive levels (no internal adjustment for DC).

ü Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü We have completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally.

ü Line cord replaced

ü Power Switch replaced

ü Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet
(very difficult to do as 'tone' section must be painstakingly removed).

ü Reflowed power resistors on PS board

ü Switches such as the 'Function' selector and the 'Tone Bypass' switch were also flooded with cleaner.

ü We also aligned the tuner front-end on both AM & FM bands for optimum performance as older tuner components will have 'drifted' over the years.

ü AM 'Stick' ferrite core adjusted for optimum reception and minimal noise

ü AM 'Stick' antenna 'ball and socket' inspected and is holding well.

ü Tuner string checked for any fraying then re-tensioned to increase traction & relieve flywheel binding and re-centered pointer to correct dial position.

ü We replaced ALL dial & meter lamps, and the 'Stereo' indicator with new bulbs for trouble-free service.

ü Both power supply filter capacitors test fine (hence the super low noise floor and clean sine waves mentioned below)

ü All inputs tested, including both Phono inputs

ü Both amplifiers produce clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent!

ü All functions test fine

Following restoration procedures, the unit was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a 4 Ohm load with "Loudness" on and Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours. Total restoration time investment ~12 hours. You will not be disappointed.

VERY GOOD TUNER! Generally AM reception in a stereo receiver is treated as an 'after thought', but the AM reception on this one is WAY above average following our service. Pulls in stations like an old 'Tube' radio! FM reception also incredible and IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!!

ü  On our test bench, the internal amplifiers of this receiver #...1907, produced 28 Volts per channel @ 8 Ohms with 1KHz input for 98 Watts and 24 Volts per channel @ 4 Ohms with 1KHz input for 144 Watts via discrete, TO3, metal cased outputs. (2x 2SC1116 & 2x 2SA747)
AC Idle current at .4A, & floor noise L&R -60dBm

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

-
Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and contacts including phono and tape monitor selectors.

-
Capacitor replaced in protection circuit.

-
We also resolved a decoder issue, the aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER!

-
The all dial & meter lamps replaced with new bulbs for trouble-free service.

-
We also disassembled the power switch and replaced the internal neon lamp (the power switch on this unit actually 'lights' up when the unit is off, presumably to make it easier to find in a darkened room and is off when the unit is on).

-
We also, removed the entire output / heat sink section, removed all the output transistors and applied fresh heat sink compound which should be good for another 30 years now.

-
Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels.

________

-
Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours into a 4 ohm load.

On our test bench, this particular KR-9940, #...0541, amplifiers each produced xxxx volts  per channel for xx watts per channel @ 8 Ω via discrete output & xx volts per channel for xx watts per channel @ 4 Ω via discrete, Metal cased, TO-3 outputs.
(AC draw at idle 0.60A tested)

(Floor noise measured at 2.5mVAC)

ü  Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü  We have completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally.

ü  Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet

ü Tuner string checked for any fraying then re-tensioned to increase traction & relieve flywheel binding and re-centered pointer to correct dial position.

ü  We aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER! AM seems to be an 'afterthought' on many stereo receivers and component tuners. The AM is above average for a 'stereo receiver' on this Kenwood KR-9940.

ü All dial & meter lamps checked as good, and as they are 'low current draw', should offer lots of trouble-free service.

ü  We also replaced the 'Power Switch' as the original was occasionally 'hanging up' upon release.

ü  We also replaced the AC Power Line cord as the original was 'questionable' for safety.

ü  We also checked the heat sink compound which should be good for another 30 years.

ü  Amplifier section had output bias adjusted to spec levels of ~25mVDC across emitter resistors.

ü  All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 Ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine.
Total restoration time investment 11.5 hours.

ü  Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours into a 4 Ohm load.

On our test bench, this particular KR-9940, #...0427, amplifiers each produced 24+ Volts per channel for 72 Watts per channel @ 8Ω via discrete output & 20 Volts per channel for 100 Watts per channel @ 4Ω via discrete, Metal cased, TO-3 outputs (8x 2SD287).

What's a 'KPD Factor'? 'Knobs per Dollar! You could also say it has very high 'MPD' and 'LPD' factors as well (you should be able to figure those out now). Features gorgeous, back-lit slide rule analog tuning scale with matching VU meters as well. VERY elegant and IMPRESSIVE unit when lit in a darkened room. This unit appears to have been marketed under two model numbers. The KR-9940 and the KR-9340

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit. Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally. Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet
(very difficult to do as 'tone' section must be painstakingly removed). Switches such as the 'Function' selector and the 'Tone Bypass' switch were also flooded with cleaner. Internal fuses checked for correct value / function and replaced where necessary. World AC Power correctly set for North American current. Dial string / cord replaced. We also aligned the tuner front-end on both AM & FM bands for optimum performance as older tuner components will have 'drifted' over the years. We also aligned the digital station display to correspond to the 'analog dial' position. Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels. We replaced ALL, meaning '21' light bulbs, including ALL dial, meter & indicator lamps, the dial pointer lamp, 'Stereo' indicator, input / function indicators, and the timer LED with new units for trouble-free service. 'Hidden' trace issues on 'bridge multiplier' and 'function switch board' repaired. Broken speaker post rebuilt / replaced. Both power supply filter capacitors removed and independently tested. Other minor electrolytic capacitors tested and replaced where necessary.
All inputs tested and both sides produce clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine, including the 'Timer'
(Normally we disconnect the 'timers' on these Kenwoods due to a nylon connector linkage sleeve that will likely break in the future (almost 100% of the time) from a user applying too much torque at some point. We avoid this likely future issue by disconnecting the linkage on all the Kenwoods that have a timer. However, on this unit, the linkage was about THREE TIMES the diameter of all the others, and strong enough to leave engaged). Following restoration procedures, the unit was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72+ hours. Total restoration time investment ~14 hours. You will not be disappointed.

MIJ!

SOLD 12/28/12
SHIPPED TO MARYLAND

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit. Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and contacts for quiet, positive operation. We also aligned the tuner front-end for optimum performance as older tuner components have drifted over the years. Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels. All dial, all meter, most function indicator and stereo indicator lamps replaced with new units for trouble-free service. All inputs tested, including both phonos, and both amplifiers produces clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. The real, Walnut wood, veneer case oiled to near new luster. All inputs tested and both sides produce clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! Following restoration procedures, the unit was operated continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours.

On our test bench, the internal amplifiers of this receiver #...2258, produced 35 volts per channel for 153 watts per channel at 8 ohms & 24.6 volts per channel for 151 watts per channel at 4 ohms via discrete, TO-3 metal cased outputs (Sanken 2x 2SC1116 & 2x 2SA747). AC Idle current at .5A, & floor noise very low @ <0.1 mVAC and DC offset adjusted tolerable spec L&R.

Here's another great Overseas / Military issued Kenwood's and one of the biggest ever made. The Kenwood "Eleven III". The last one of these we had lasted only a few days before it found a home with it's new owner. These are one of the most classy looking receivers out there. Photos cannot do it justice. Great brushed finish aluminum face with metal knobs to match. Full width glass window in front of an impressive array of indicators and VU meters.
 Kenwood KR-Eleven III Features include:

HEY, WHY ALL THE 'X'd' OUT / OMITTED SPECS AND TEXT?

This thing is incredible. Again, we have done EXTENSIVE refurbishment / restoration work (~12+ hours) on this unit to insure it's performance, and it gets our full 'Certification'.  Face plate, window and knobs are in perfect cosmetic condition. The real wood Walnut veneer case shows well with only minor normal wear. Edges and corners still nice looking. Just had a fresh coat of 'Howards Feed-n-Wax'. Handsome finish. Looks impressive and sounds great! This thing is incredible when lit up at night or in a dark room!! Measures 22.75" wide x 7.75" tall x 15" deep and weighs 40 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty.

"WORLD AC POWER" ™
MIJ!

SOLD 1/11/13
SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit. Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally. Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet
(very difficult to do as 'tone' section must be painstakingly removed). Switches such as the 'Function' selector and the 'Tone Bypass' switch were also flooded with cleaner. Internal fuses checked for correct value / function and replaced where necessary. World AC Power correctly set for North American current. We also aligned the tuner front-end on both AM & FM bands for optimum performance as older tuner components will have 'drifted' over the years. We also aligned the digital station display to correspond to the 'analog dial' position. Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels. We replaced ALL, meaning '21' light bulbs, including ALL dial & meter lamps, the dial pointer lamp, 'Stereo' indicator, input / function indicators, and the timer LED with new units for trouble-free service. Intermittent tuner display, and pre-amp issues corrected that was due to a couple of 'open grounds'. Both power supply filter capacitors removed and independently tested. Other minor electrolytic capacitors tested and a couple replaced where necessary. Rerouted a poorly selected internal wire path.
Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours. Total restoration time investment ~14 hours. You will not be disappointed.

From the original Kenwood 'Super Eleven' Owners / Service manual, "xxxwatts per channel minimum RMS, both channel driven at I ohms from xxHz with no more than 0.xx% total harmonic distortion"
- However-

On our test bench, the internal amplifiers of this receiver #...0632, produced 32.5 volts per channel @ 8 ohms with 1Khz input for 132 watts and 28.3 volts per channel @ 4 ohms with 1Khz input for 200 watts via discrete, TO3, metal cased outputs. (2x Toshiba 2SB554 & 2x 2SD424)
AC Idle current at .6A, & floor noise < 2 mVAC and DC offset <7mV.

ü  AM 'Stick' antenna 'ball and socket' inspected and is holding well.

ü  Tuner string checked for any fraying then re-tensioned to increase traction & relieve flywheel binding and re-centered pointer to correct dial position.

ü  We replaced 18 light bulbs, including ALL dial & meter lamps, the dial pointer lamp, the 'Speakers' bulb, 'FM', 'AUX', 'PHONO 1', 'NR MODE' and the timer lamp with new units for trouble-free service.

VERY GOOD TUNER! Generally AM reception in a stereo receiver is treated as an 'after thought', but the AM reception on this one is WAY above average. Pulls in stations like an old 'Tube' radio! FM reception also incredible and IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!!
